Blimpy's First Ever Podcast

Hey folks, here for your delectation is my first ever podcast, in which I talk about music mostly, irresponsible farmers and their mud, random itunesness, killer pets, what I've been up to for the last 3 weeks, gypsies, and much more besides.

It's in two parts, and I really hope you enjoy it. Please leave your thoughts in the comments, cheers to one and all 'Spillers!!

About motherf*cking time!! I'm listening right now.

I see what you did Blimpy. You realised you couldn't come back with a measly "What, I just didn't feel like it!" after your 3-week warning-less absence, so you come back and do this. Well I very much enjoyed listening to the first Blimpcast, and would like some more.

If I could add just one or two technical opinions, your voice tends to drop towards the end of your sentences, and when you talk over a record, I can't hear your voice. Not that I should be giving elocution lessons to anybody mind.

Oh and by the way, I heard it. All the way baby

BLIMPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mean to monopolize the comments, but I just remembered that I thought that Paris Je t'Aime was pretty shit for the most part. One of my favourite bit though was how that song tied it all together sort of.

Hi Blimpy - glad you're back.

I'll listen later.

Hi Blimpy - I saw ejd's post over on the Mothership and rushed through cyberspace to get here as quick as I could. Listening to the blimpcast right now - loving the Feist (?) track. Great to have you back.

Hi everyone, thanks for the kind comments so far.

The next blimpcast will be technically better, I promise. I'll get a proper mic, and not use garageband i think.

nice to be back!

Made it through the Dark Continent and out the other side! Thanks for this blimpy - thoroughly enjoyed it. ToffeeGirl said you sounded a bit like Rowley Birkin from the Fast Show. Cheek! I thought I detected a touch of the late Mr Peel myself...

More please.

Nice Bl'ast, Blimpy. Despite the Toto.
Reminds me of an ill-advised guest spot on a friend's radio show I once attempted. It was a phone link, but owing to the time difference he was very bouncy and I was extremely tired. I heard the playback once- it took three weeks to ungrit my teeth, and the cringe had a lasting effect on my haircut.
Yours is fine, though.

A good, if weird, range of music Blimpy.

I quite like the way you ramble, I think I do that myself when I am talking about music.

If I was a parent, I'd say "Don't you dare go off like that again without telling us", but as I'm just a fellow 'spiller, I'll leave it at "Welcome back". (BTW, is there any way we can ever see any of the fruits of your labours, slaving over a hot copy of Final Cut or Premiere or whatever?) You're not doing another lot of BBC idents are you?

You will see there has been a thriving bloggage in theories as to your absence. My front runners were:
1. He's bored with it, and is now running a blog on stop motion movies of Highland cattle doing the pogo dance
2. He's not coming back till someone removes the post "Blimpy baiting"
3. The pressure of running the blog has led to an encounter with the men in white coats.

Great podcast, once I'd got over the fact your accent wasn't the lowland Scots burr of my imagination. As ever, there's not a song from you I don't like (well, Toto apart of course). And I did get as far as the mention of the Pinot, so claim my prize.

Look forward to the next one, and hope - as with the quizzes - it leads to a podcast outbreak...

Hey Blimpo: Welcome home, you sure sound funny, not what I expected, but nice. I had a go at this some weeks ago when we were doing the poetry thing with TracyK, I did a reading of Timothy Winters but couldn't get it to play here, when I'd finally got it figured out the moment had passed so I stuck it over at my blog. Anyhow, one thought; if you were to use Podbean we could visually see how long the piece/the cuts were and could scroll through music, should, god forbid, it not be to our absolute total liking, to get to the next interesting bit, as it is we're a bit captive, it's all or nothing. Technically speaking I've found a couple of things that help, 1. A glass of brandy or somesuch makes it flow a touch easier. 2. A lavallier mic so you're not concerned with keeping a consistent distance. 3. I haven't used garageband for anything like this but I've had good success with Sound Studio and Audacity might be OK after you've got it tamed.
Keep 'em coming, and lets hear from the rest of the staff.

On a slightly different but similar topic I've done a couple of walk-around CD's for my gardening friends. I put an iTalk mic into my iPod and hang it round my neck like a lavallier and armed with a glass of whatever I walk around my 1 acre describing the wonders of nature. This recording is then transferred into iTunes and burned to a CD but if I wanted to get creative I could open it into Sound Studio, edit it and add music.

GF, if you click on the title as opposed to the "PLay" icon, it'll download and open into iTunes, where you can go forward and backward.

Ejay: Thanks, just did it.

Ta for the Toto.

@toffeeboy, i relayed the description of rowley birkin crossed with peel to mrs mcflah, and she thought it was quite spot on! rah rah rah poisonous monkeys mumble mumble etc

@nilp - do you have a record of said guest slot?

@caroleB - left to my own devices, a ramble is what comes out, it's an odd thing to record yourself talking to yourself.

@ghe - i haven't worked my way down to the theories behind my absence as yet, I'm amazed and gladdened that folks noticed i was away.

the theories are hilarious, and i must apologise for not being scottish, something i have to do a fair bit living here in scotland.

glad you liked all the music; AND i really hope it does lead to a mass outbreak of podcasts - please everyone! do it!!!

@gf - i think podbean may be more suited to this sort of broadcast, you're right - so tracks can be skipped. would it help if i put up a track listing and timings next time?

aLSO, i wouild especially love to hear a podcast from you, as a man who is very very worldly and experienced, would make for great listening.

@all spillers - go do a podcast, please!!!

nilpferd said...

Blimpy, sorry, no. I actually killed everyone associated with it, destroyed the tapes, and torched the studio. If you ever encounter anyone who tells you different, please let me know.

ejaydee said...

Going a bit Keyser Söze there, Nilpf. Kind of scary.

No chance of me doing a podcast, can't stand hearing my voice, so I'd have no way of editing it.

Re the theories around your absence, it's perfectly understandable to have a bit of 'Spill/RR burnout, just warn us next time you're going to be that long.

@Blimpy

re - "@caroleB - left to my own devices, a ramble is what comes out"

Left to my own devices I probably would

Not many points for getting the musical reference though, but do tell if you get it.

ejaydee said...

Actually since you're back, maybe you can get cracking and help with my boxstr issues. I haven't been able to do a nice boxstr list like you and Steenbeck.

Had a very nice kind of 'in your own lounge' feeling to it. I like Feist very much too. You have a good broadcaster's voice. Is there NOTHING this man can't do?????????

DarceysDad said...

Blimpy, I can't listen to PtII - "This file is unavailable because its owner has ran [sic] out of bandwidth."
Who's issue is that? Mine, yours, BOXSTr's or Tristan Tzara's? (Sorry, I'm all surrealed out!

Blimpy said...

@fp; you are too too kind.

@DSD - it seems the huge popularity of my podcast has nudged my bandwidth over the edge (boxtr has limits, it seems). That combined with the fact that the last cyndi lauper mp3 i post3ed up has been listened to nearly a billion times.

@ejaydee - what's up?

Blimpy said...

@DSD - my bandwidth gets reset tomorrow at some point.

DarceysDad said...

Cheers, that man!

ejaydee said...

Well, I followed your instructions, and it was fine until I was supposed to put stuff in Box A. I couldn't do anything with Box A. SO I just post the HTML code version, which is fine if my post is the first one with Boxstr on the page. If not, it won't play, or become part of the playlist above it, if you see what I mean.

Blimpy said...

hi ejd - i copy the box A text over to the html window of blogger initially, put in the mp3 hotlinked addresses and description, and when that's all fine, i copy over the code from box b.

the post you did from before ("within a toaster of his life) worked perfectly, cos i listened to all of it!!

ejaydee said...

My problem is I can't edit or copy anything in Box A. My suspicion is that I'm doing something wrong between opening the mediaplayer page and trying to paste my links. If you try listening to Within A Toaster now, it doesn't work. However the files are still downloadable.

Blimpy ..glad you are back, got us worried there and what a lovely bl'ast
(good one nilpferd)
But I was expecting this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hctbGB6DYhU
when you was talking about the movie da O/H was @.
It's taken me long enough to catch up after a weekend away so dread to think how you are doing.

Hi Shane, that song is ace (i have it on 7") and would have fit perfectly. Only an RRer could have come up with it!
