I never realised the single version is different than the album's, which is where Diddley was sampled. I loved that video for Buddy. I feel like hip-hop overdid the posse cut and now it seems they're only on mixtapes.

This song has been a huge source of crossness for me today. For many months now I've been frustrated because I can't find my (flamboyantly bright, impossible to miss) copy of 3 ft high. Today I justified downloading the album because I've owned it for a million years--I already paid for it. But every version I could find...Is missing that track!! Freaky. So then I just posted what's on youTube because I liked both videos and it's all good music and I'd already spent too much time thinking about Buddy. I do like to see that video, though. I think I've probably said it a million times, but One of my favorite things about hip hop is these collectives, and native tongues is one of my favs.

Just listening to 3 Ft High & Rising for the first time in ages. It's so good. Kind of like Bo Diddley--I think people owe so much to them.

Maybe it's because I didn't really pay attention to it (apart from the French lesson with the sausages) when it first came out, but I always preferred De La Soul Is Dead as an album.
I'm not saying 3 Ft High is Hip hop's answer to Sgt. Pepper, but it's close. I mean in the sense that I've come to the conclusion Sgt. Pepper is not as good as it's cracked up to be.

I don't have a very scientific reason for it--3 ft high just puts me in a good mood. Except today, it's not working, for some reason.
I realized after watching the Buddy video that I'd never knowingly heard any Jungle Brothers. I just got their second album...interesting.
