Hot Buttered Soul is just such an amazing album
it's not my normal taste in music.. but I found it captivating.
12 minutes of walk on by is just fantastic..

Yes, RIP&Love to Mr. Hayes.
I first heard his Bacharach / David interpretations on 'Black Moses' - from the album title I was expecting all hard-edged consciousness-raising stuff, so finding the extended lushness of "Close To You" and "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" was a lesson in broad-mindedness as well as a cool musical discovery. I don't really go for discussions about 'influence', but it's kind of the link between Otis Redding and Barry White !

I also popped over here because I've been on a search inspired by your interest in translations. Here's a link to a French lyric for "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" (Fumée Aux Yeux).

I'm going to look up some of the vocabulary later but it sounds lovely, especially the blue clouds of smoke obscuring the eyes in verse 2.

He was the man. My favourite songs of his are: Run Fay Run, Ike's Rap II, No Name Bar, By The Time I get To Phoenix, Soulsville, No Name Bar, Hung Up On My Baby, A Brand New Me, Walk On By. It all started with the theme from Shaft of course, and later discovering Stax Records, without realising he had written all these songs, and then his solo output. Thanks Black Moses!
