D'OH

What songs have you thought of for an RR topic after the deadline has passed? Some of my recent D'OH moments include: "Everything You Can Think Is True" by Tom Waits for Surreal songs; and that Liebe Ist Cool's "Regenbogen" means rainbow in German, too late for colours week.  What are your D'OH moments?

Anyway, here is a playlist for this week: 1) The wonderful Wolfgang Press 2) Mr. Devoto's cover version 3) Little Annie Anxiety (yes I know, blessing is a stretch, but it's one of those weeks) 4) The Cabs 5) The late, great, Andy Fairley with a sad little tale. Oh, for a quick quiz, 3 of these 5 songs have something in common. Not a "please" song in sight, am sure I'll come up with more after Monday...... D'OH.

Updated with bonus track: 6) Unreleased little gem from Nina Nastasia.

Riders on the Heart
Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
Bless Those
Thank You America

Brilliant thread thought, Shoey.
No doubt I'll remember all the dozens of songs that has happened to me with just after this thread disappears onto 'Spill page 2.

Too tired tonight; am going to have one more watch of Sinead, then bed.

I often have songs that I discover days after the topic.

I discovered the excellent version of "They're coming to take me way" by Lard (bizarre collaboration between Al Jourgensen and Jello Biafra) just after the Songs about mental illness week....

@Japanther
That sounds awesome. Can you 'spill it? (Any relation to the other JAP?)

I don't have a huge collection to choose from, so normally find my best picks before the deadline. However about 3 weeks after the recent songs about news and journalism topic, for which I couldn't think of a single nomination, I put on Betty Davis' raw and brilliant "dedicated to the press" and awarded myself a D'oh-ndle.

Well, DsD chose Mary Gauthier's 'Thanksgiving' for this week's topic and even as I donded it I remembered that it goes:

"It's Thanksgiving at the prison..."

And Maddy said there weren't that many songs about prison by women!

Like Japanther, I sometimes hear a song that would be perfect after the subject has passed--Nas's Sly Fox would have been perfect for the journalism theme, for instance...

Can't think of any that weren't recommended by someone else. My biggest regret at the time was not recommending XTC's 'Grass' before the deadline. Then I opened up my Guardian to find it had made the Top 10 (Trees, grass and flowers)
I was in the Arizona desert sans computer for the 'Radio' week, but someone else still recommended Regina Spektor's 'On the Radio' and it made the list.
I think I'd only D'OH if a song I'd thought of really slipped through the net.
