Where was everyone??

We had an RR social in NYC and only 2 people showed up. But we talked about everyone, so that's okay. Were your ears burning?

Don't blame me, I .. er.. went to Paris to try and find EJ, and he wasn't there!!! Spent the whole day wandering 'round Versailles for nothing!

What?? *NEW* York?!! No wonder the looked at me funny in Fibbers!!

Maybe only two people showed up but it looks like they had 6 or 7 drinks on the go at the same time.

I'm liking Ejay's selfless dedication in travelling across the world to meet all of us Spillers in person. It's weird thinking I met Ed in Manchester amd there he is with Steen in NYC: that virtual thread that holds us together occasionally becomes tangible and visible. Marvellous!

Jolly good show you two!

I wonder if I'll ever meet another 'Spiller.....

(what are you both looking at by the way? did the bar band start playing"africa"?)

Damn, I put the wrong city on the invite!
It was only the beginning of the afternoon, so we didn't have ALL the drinks! It was a great pleasure meeting the Steenbeck clan, so thanks for that, and sorry about by half-started, half-finished stories, and my uselessness in finding a good bakery.

Blimpy, the choice is yours! Come to the next social. (I'm looking at Claire's brother, who wrote Africa by Toto, and autographed a copy for you...
No he didn't actually)

Actually we were looking at Toto themselves, who have reformed as a Toto cover band.
And that's right, several of the beers were my sons. We always get them liquored up when we go into NYC.
Sorry to talk so much you couldn't finish a story, and who needs a bakery when you can give melty ice cream with sprinkles to a cuddly 2-yr-old?
Here's a youTube of Modern Marvel until the bandwith kicks in...

I think we need a Scottish social, curated by Frogprincess (who must open & close proceedings personally), but organised by Blimpy in fp's absence during the build-up.

Darce I might take you up on that. I've been promising myself to get back up to Eddingboro for the Festival for years. Next year possibly maybe. It would mark 20 years since I got my degree there. truly scary...

I'm all in favour of an Edinburgh event - it is after all the city of my birth and I've been there every year of my life.

Blimpy said...

The Burgh of Eden is good for me! Shame the festival has just finished; however Mogwai and Fuck Buttons are playing soon!

nilpferd said...

If we could pick the southern Edinburgh, I'll be there in December.. almost 20 yrs since I finished my degree there, too...

Yes, me too for Edinburgh please.

Over to you then, fp & Blimpy . . .

Blimpy said...

Righto then!

The Phoenix on Broughton Street; 7pm sharp tonight. I'll be the one with a sleeve for a face, and a half drunk bottle of Rioja.

Be there or be square!

Regrets from me - I'll be at Cargo grooving to Faust and Sh*t and Shine.

Blimpy, if you've got a sleeveface on tonight, won't you be there AND be square?!

Waaaaaah. can't make it Blimpy - curled up on the sofa with a laptop and a G n'T. But let's try to do a social in Edinburgh around the time of the festival next year. Stunned that Nilpferd also studied there. Were you at the College of art? I had town planner friends there. I did conference interpreting (you know, the folks with the earphones on) and translating at Heriot-Watt which was in Chambers Street at the time. So we were handy for the Grass Market and Victoria Street. Seems a lot of us have some kind of connection with Auld Reekie.
Oh and Mnemonic - enjoy your plate of Krautrock!

For no reason that I can possibly explain, I've been to Edinburgh more than any other non-American place. Except maybe London. I'd definitely try to make it there next summer!

.... said...

That's truly spooky, Steenbeck. For that alone we have to make this happen. I'm in.

Oh I just understood Nilpferd's comment. D'oh!

TracyK said...

That might be do-able, we've got friends who always do the Fringe and we keep meaning to go...

FP, I did briefly flirt with Edinburgh College of Art in 1990 after finishing in Dunedin, but the fees were too high for a non-resident, so I went to Wellington instead.

Hey I'll wear my kilt ... get yours from Howie @ www.21stcenturykilts.com
I got married in Edinburgh earlier this year and am back at every excuse; New Year and the Wales game at Murrayfield in the diary at the moment. Book Caberet Voltaire .. we could do the show right there.
