Brian Blessed (bottom left) holds the record for being the oldest man to trek to the magnetic north pole; a record previously held by Robert Fripp.
I see you got Boxstr to work for you, Carole. I'll have a listen this evening. Ta.
It's the cover off 'In the wake of Poseidon', from which none of the tracks are taken?
Hi, Carole. If you do get round to doing a GD top ten, here's my attempt (in alphabetical order):
Bird Song
Black Peter
Cassidy
Comes A Time
Estimated Prophet
Jack Straw
Playing In The Band
Scarlet Begonias
Stella Blue
Wharf Rat
I've gone for songs that stood the test of time and personnel changes. Go on, have a go!
@glasshalfempty - got it!
@Chris - at least five of your choices would definitely feature on my Dead Top Ten.
I'll get thinking.
FrogPrince enjoyed this - big King Crimson fan. I liked some of it too!!!!
Oooh yes King Crimson - I'd have 21st Century Schizoid Man in there and Court of the Crimson King. Formentera Lady - haven't heard that for 30+ years. Come to think of that, my ITCOTCK LP is probably still with my first husband...
Congrats on getting boxstr to work - I'm now one of a dying breed...
Looking forward to listening to the list later.
Thanks for the wee bit of education there Carole.
I have to confess to never having knowingly heard even one King Crimson song before...kind of what I expected them to sound like, but there is a lot more ambient-type sounds and emotional lyrics than I thought there would be.... all in all a pretty nice listen to while away my Sunday afternoon working away in a completely deserted office (ahh...peace) waiting for the F1 to start (going to have to make do with watching on the TV on my mobile though)...
Oh...and calling a song "Matte Kudasai" definitely pricked my ears up....is there a reason for chucking in a bit of Japanese?
Adrian Belew, who wrote the lyric, had this to say:
"It means "Please wait for me". I found it in my Japanese phrase book and thought it sang well and made a nice title."
@richardrj - thanks!
BTW, i picked up Peter Hammill album #3 (in my collection, that is) today; "PH7", it wasn't in your recommemnded list, but was all they had and it had a cool cover.
Another great one, kinda schizophrenic in that it seemed to jump between sounds and even voices...but i'm still yet to be disappointed with the great man.
"Are you having a lark? Is she having a lark??".
Well obviously not ... how did that list go from an exaltation of larks to no larks at all?
Gotta have some larks.
I am going to post all the larks together in a separate playlist.
