You've Come A Long Way

A long, long time ago:

Much, much later:

Oh, first one to mention Glastonbury gets a biscuit.

While I'm at it, here's a funny little thing I've been playing with

Bonus Tracks
Jay-Z vs Fela: Roc Boyz (MikeLove's Nigerian Gangster remix)

Anybody got other such transformations? I thought of John Lennon obviously, but that's all I came up with.

Wow, he looks so young!! I actually like that Jaz-O track a lot. But why-oh-why did women wear their pants buttoned up to their ribs? I was thinking of putting together a mix of songs that demonstrate musical dexterity, and that would fit.

I listened to the Big Boi, too, thanks for posting it. Wonderful lyrics. He sums up in a few minutes what's been happening the last 8 yrs. i wish it was more big boi less mjb, I think. It reminded me a little of "what's going On," in a snapshot-of-the-times kinda way.

ANd that drum machine site looks dangerously fun. Can you record sounds? I wonder if it would work with Garageband?

Heyyyy, I just noticed garageband opened when I clicked on the site. I might have to come out of retirement. And keyboards too!! Do you have anything you want to share with the class?

Oh, and I meant VERBAL dexterity.

Jay-Z can definitely do verbal dexterity, in fact they did a follow-up to this in 99 to remind people he still had it, that was their style back then. I like how nerdy he looks in that old video, and notice how he rewrote history in the second video, where the actor who looks uncannily (unfortunately for him) like Jay in '88, is way cooler than the real one a year after

I've played a little bit with the drum machines, but it didn't open Garageband for me. Still, you've got to be quite dextrous with the mouse to make something listenable.

Whether or not something is listenable has never been a deciding factor in whether or not I share it with the world, unfortunately.

I think everyone looked nerdy in 1988, without exception.

Other notable transformations: Kevin Rowland, Kevin Rowland ... oh, and of course Kevin Rowland in that dress at Glastonbury (can I have my biscuit now please?)

Oh I see we have a comedian in the classroom today, well Toffee, you DO get a biscuit (not the public school kind, I should stress).

I reallly liked Make the road by Walking. So much that I googled the band. They're on Daptone? Are they new? I couldn't find anything about them on the daptone website.

Do they call Jay Z Hova? Or does he call himself that? Do you know why? Am I revealing my ignorance by asking this question? For some reason it was bugging me in the middle of the night.

questions questions...

Oh, found the myspace page. I think I've just listened to that song about 5 times in a row...

You may be revealing your ignorance, but it really isn't necessary knowledge. He des soe, time go by HOva, short for Jehova (JAY-hova) of course.
The Menahan Street Band is formed of some members of El Michels Affair (sometimes backing band for the Wu-Tang) and ANtibalas.
