North Beach

An instant reaction to FP's post.. a good opportunity to post the best beach track I know, George Duke's North Beach. Feedback drenched Fender Rhodes in overdrive, fed through a delay unit, to create an awesome, ambient-psychedelic soundscape.
I read somewhere that it was a single take, spontaneous recording; no overdubbing or edits.

North Beach

One for this week's theme: Jailbreak, by David Holmes, taken from the O.S.T. for Out of sight.

(Player removed)

Further to the beach themes: Christian Prommer's jazz version of the House classic Beau mot plage..

Nice one Herr Hippo. I nearly spluttered my Pina Colada all over the keyboard when I heard Clooney's dulcet tones. It is him isn't it? Who else? That voice kinda does things to me. That track is... bangin'. FP.

We have half of your lot over here today doing the sales. Big up to the Alsacian shop keepers for all speaking really good German.

The Cloonmeister it is, indeed. Sorry about the keyboard (you're nevertheless running at Nr. 1 for this years Hewlett Packard award) Commiserations for the invasion. We get loads of Swiss here for the summer sales, I've never understood what people see in the Königstrasse. No alsatian shopping planned, but I'm looking forward to TGV-ing over to Paris next month to pick up an aged parent.

Ooooh well wave in my general direction when you cross the Rhine! The Chermans tend to behave rather well and are very enthusiastic about the nice things in the shops over here. I think the attraction for your Swiss, er, visitors, is that things are just bound to be sooo much cheaper. And you have Tannenzäpfle which is nice.

I always enjoy a trip to Strasbourg, we mostly come around Christmas for the market. We're lucky enough that our french corner deli provides a great selection of fresh alsatian produce.
When the Swiss roll in here most shops put up signs that they also accept Sfr, it is big business. If I was being catty I might suggest it is also a good chance to clear out all the kitsch stock no-one here would dream of buying (but I won't). There are certainly worse folk to have invading your town than the Swiss, that's for sure.

Ha Ha Nilpferd said "Swiss Roll". Do let us know when the Hippo family roll into Strasbourg.

The Swiss roll; the Hippo family wallows.
Will do.

Hang on - you do know why that's funny for us Brits, yeah? A Swiss Roll is a very stodgy but rather nice cake we all grew up with. I'm sure the Swiss have never heard of it - but the Brits have...

We had them in NZ, a rolled up sponge filled with jam and whipped cream. For some reason the sponge was either red or yellow. It gave rise to the following terrible joke (one of the worst 10 ever):
Q: how do you make a Swiss Roll?
A: shove him off an alp.
or, alternatively, announce summer sales in Stuttgart.

Beachwise I just added the house classic Beau mot plage, along with a nice jazz version by Berlin DJ Christian Prommer..
