Richard of York.....FP's colourful playlist

Our Courgettequeen talked about FIP radio on the Mother Ship this morning - glad you're still enjoying them. Now I listen to just as much music from the laptop - hooked up to decent speakers - as I do from the old hi fi. I listen to all your lists on a week-end, for example. But I'm woefully ignorant in terms of good internet radio stations. I mean, you can find lists and all that...but what's good? And for what style? Therefore this week's question would simply be:
Do you have any radio stations you listen to on the web that we should know about... and what's great about them...?
This week's list follows the order of the rainbow or spectrum: ROYGBIV. The violet one was hard but I fell back on (fnar fnar) The Wee One with an absolutely filthy reworking of Getttt Offff. Enjoy. And the for the three remaining tracks I went broad and added three very different songs all dealing with the notion of colour.

Can I take this as a dond for Rose Rouge then, FP?

Sorry, just gone back to mothership and there is the dond.

Third attempt...

An almost awesome list, fp, but I'm afraid I have a stubborn aversion to Coldplay. The Royksopp remix of Clocks was fantastic, but that was because it transformed the U2-stadia bombast into 80s electropop.

Glad you opted for Cyndi's TC, rather than the crime-against-easy-listening version by Phil Collins which assaulted me whilst youtubing recently.

Radio-wise, it's all I can do to manage an occasional Archers listen-again, so I'm eager to be enlightened by other 'spillers.

Well there is last.fm when it comes to internet radios... I also listen to Radio Nova form time to time, and TSF Jazz, but you might already have access to those from your radio.

Ooh there's also Donal Dineen's Smal hours on TodayFm.

There's one I like, it's not a specific 'radio station', but rather the music homepage for National Public Radio. There's tons of free and downloadable music there of every genre; along the top you'll see links for Rock, Pop, Folk, Classical, Jazz & Blues, World and Urban, whatever that is. If you go to the jazz link check out 'Jazz Profiles', an excellent series of hourlong documentaries on just about every major player.

Great playlist as always, fp. And I'll support your inclusion of Coldplay - I really don't know what all the fuss is about. Yellow is a great song - end of story!

I was planning a short 'Spill playlist (which I may still get around to) but you've stolen the name I was going to use.

Perhaps I'll call it 'Gave Battle In Vain'...

Cheers for the radio ideas, GF and Ejay - I shall check those suggestions out tomorrow on the balcony. Mnemonic - absolute Frenchdonds for Saint Germain. Great to hear that one again. Scary - The archers! Now you're talking. La la la la la la la la!! Haven't heard Clocks remixed by my favourite Norwegians. I shall check that one out. Toffee - please do the 'Battle in Vain' playlist! And cheers for the Coldplay support. As you say - great song period. Love it when the gee-tars chime in at the beginning THWANNNNNGGGGGG!!!

Loved the St. Germain track & Orange Crush is my favorite REM song. Yellow is a great song, but has been so overplayed I would like to avoid hearing it for another 5 years - Fat chance in my house.

Cheers Shoegazer. Glad those songs did it for you. I'm secretly hoping Yellow might make the list, actually. You never know...

FP, I love the way you can always be counted on to post great songs regardless of the views of the pop intelligentsia. No amount of hipper-than-thou revisionism will stop me thinking Parachutes was a great album.

Cheers GHE. That's so kind. My only criterion is "Is it good?". But I realise how utterly subjective that can be. And Parachutes was, and is, a great album. Still sparkling great pop-rock. Even though Chris Martin has taken to rhyming 'December' with 'remember', we've not seen the last of Coldplay's greatness. Look what U2 went through to get back to 'All that you can't leave behind'. QED? Time will tell...
