Snug as a bug in a rug
The strangest bug I have ever seen- South Africa 2006 - what on earth is it? Is it Henry, the mild-mannered janitor? Can you help solve this strange and worrying mystery? It was too big even to squish , especially with flip-flops on so we let it go its way, which is a good thing as I can't really afford any more lapses on my karma-slate.
It's definitely a warning from nature - made me think of Cerrano (not de Bergerac) "Supernature"...

welcome aboard!!
well, it's some kind of grasshopper or cricket...

it's quite like this one - a koppie foam grasshopper. Apparently it spits poisonous foam at you when it doesn't like you...
It's an evil looking bastard whatever it is. No doubt we'll have them over in blighty in a year or two. Anyone else noticed how global warming seems to be producing more exotic beasties in our English (or Scottish/Welsh/Irish) country gardens?
Chez Toffee, we've been getting some real monsters this year. Huge things, about two foot tall, usually with something that looks like ice cream or chocolate dribbling down their disgusting faces, and the smell of decaying waste from their nether regions.
I really must fix that fence - the twins from next door are starting to annoy me...
& The Bug is also one of the best albums this year. Welcome, Gremlin
[In best Motty voice:] "Quality cross to the six-yard-box from treefrogdemon there, but neither ToffeeBoy nor Shoey could take the tap-in."
The moment has gone now but the temptation to finish the 'spits poisonous foam' sentence with a "... just like {insert favourite hated celebrity} would have been too much for me to resist if I'd been on this pitch from the start!
A virtual hello handshake for gremlin, and a goodnight to you all.
It's that Sarah Parrish character from Dr Who, innit?
DsD: I used to know John Motson when I were a tadpole...didn't like him much though.
Nice crunchy first post, gremlin. You see, bugs like that with the big stripy tail and all the alarming red and orange everywhere - I don't mind them in places like South Africa where they need to look like that. It's when you get these middle-class bugs flitting round the suburbs looking like that just to feed off the nits on the school run or to infest the fruit and veg at Tesco's, I just think, have a word with yourself, love.
@ tfd re Motson - hmmm, kind of confirms my impression when I met him briefly at (the old) Wembley once. Less said the better I think!
The mystery of the creature is solved - have a peep...
