Awoo!

Over on the Mothership on Friday, I jokingly nominated The Hidden Camera's song "Awoo" cos that's the noise a ghost makes ( I also thought it hilarious to nominate "Phantom Limb" by The Shins too, deary me..).

HOWEVER! I've dug a bit deeper into "Awoo" and discovered that along with the fact it is indeed a fab pop song - IT ALSO HAS A SPOOKY VIDEO AND GHOSTLY LYRICS TOO! So maybe it is about ghosts after all....

"If I am naked on the throne, I’ll be working in bone yard, awoo
Haunts the blood like a bad reputation, awoo"

stunning song and a mostly friendly band (all 74 of them!)

I had a failed career in interviewing and translating..
1) I don't care much for what musicians have to say except in songs
2) I'm rubbish at languages- including English

So I get off the plane somewhere in the same half of Germany where Hamburg is located.. I'm passed a couple of cheap bottles of Astra beer and off we go..
"oh by the way we're off to interview 'The hidden cameras'........."

"are you?"

"no we are.. my English isn't good enough.. it'll be on the radio at the weekend.."

"oh... MORE BEER please!"

any way it's all going fine and Joel nips off to get some noodles and my German friend who is recording all this goes..
"so what is an enema?"
just before he sits back down.

(Mississauga Goddam had just been released with the song 'I want another enema' on it)

I cracked up for the rest of it (i think he found it slightly amusing) but we were asked to stay for the afternoon and the gig in the evening..
they are one of the most energetic and fun bunch that you can witness live...

good song/ good video.

Is Shane right about the list?

And saneshane, if you're reading, I heard a song on the radio today I wondered if you'd like, mostly because the voice reminded me of Bjork. Then I realized you put one of their songs on a CD you sent to me (I'm slow like that)
This was it...

And they played that Animal Collective song about summer clothes in the same program!

I really like cocorosie.. but they annoy lots of people..
not the best quality clip.. although a lot of my friends would question how I can tell!

The woman who first gave me an album by them is bizarrely the one in the story about The Hidden Cameras above... (she runs a mini record label and has a tea and record shop in Luneburg)
she doesn't understand why on earth I like them so much (she probably couldn't sell the record.. always good for me.. I get a lot of interesting stuff that way)

and sorry I get carried away when sending songs, it's not a shock when people don't notice tracks on '1 million tracks shane thinks are good the 26th of January'

I might have a go at my top 600 like Blimpy!

A: A list of songs.

Where's me prize?

A: An "American" top 10 list of songs?

Blimpy said...

Nope - it's the tracklisting of the first episode of the new series of Skins.

Series 1 & 2 of Skins, which as well as having ace music throughout, were one of the sharpest and funniest and best written bits of drama to have graced the old telly box in years - and series 3 seems primed to carry it on.

-shane - your stories are amazing! more please!!

Now in this day and age... that seems like an ideal job.....

you want a track list for your program..

here at the 'SPILL SELECTION AGENCY' we have all your needs under one (virtual) roof..

and in what style...
OHHH that'll be the DsD department
umm.. for that we have a Kalyr
ahhh that department is well stocked from our Fps ands Tbs .....
..etc etc etc

(and my friends in Germany got one of their bands songs on a cooking program for 30 seconds... pays for the next set of releases)

YOU'LL GET THE RIDE STORY when you do your post bimpy.

Ride story sounds ominously interesting....my search for Ride LP's last Saturday unearthed plenty of 12"s but no albums...it's always when you are actively looking for something, that they don't have it (I only had time to go to the one shop though!). Will try again next weekend and await the Blimpost in the meantime...

Um, I'm having probs finding one of the Ride mp3s I need, and don't want to pay itunes for the privilege of owning summat I already have on vinyl. So, the Ride is POSTponed for tonight. Soz!

Looking forward to it, Blimpy. Ride are a band I've never bothered to investigate, so ...

Due to vast expectations, the Ride based procrastination has set in, i must apologise. I have written a moderately lengthy post about music on the web instead though...

Oh, and ep 2 of Skins was complete poo with a tedious soundtrack. Apols if anyone tuned in on my recommendation.
