I half-remember both IT and Oz, and also a magazine called 'Gandalf's Garden' from those days. I particularly remember a photo of Germaine Greer in a very exposed position, which had been cut into concentric circles and moved around, in order to prevent an obscene publication rap. It would have been far too uncool to try to reconstitute the original photo, although the temptation to do so was very strong for a teenage boy. I also remember an article called 'Don't let your chick blow your balls'. Boggle on....
I was too young for IT (and it was only occasionally available outside London), but my elder Notting Hill Gate-dwelling proper hippie brother had copies (and of OZ and Ink - the latter a rather good alternative newspaper, more mature than the Private Eye of its day) which he left in my mum's attic, and which I devoured before they were accidentally given to the Topsham WI Bring & Buy sale...
Incidentally, I'm sure that IT lasted long beyond the timespan of this archive... 1969/70 at least?
This might also spark some memories: http://pers-www.wlv.ac.uk/~fa1871/LondonOz.html
Quiz question: which very '60s/'70s singer-songwriter immortalised IT in one of his lyrics? I used not to rate this performer at all, but I've recently started working in a locale immortalised in the title of one of his/her songs, and I'm beginning to develop a sneaking regard...
I'm with you, debbym. I'm usually the elder statesman on the other message boards I frequent, but I feel quite the young whippersnapper on here! You're making a just-turned-40-year-old very happy here, guys. Keep it up ;-)

Wow, I've only just realised how young I am ;-)
By contrast, debbym, I've just realised........!

I probably shouldn't mention my age then....
I don't remember it either, far too young. But I thought it might flush out people who weren't really there ;-)
Not only was I there but I once copped off with IT's film critic after a private view in a little Soho viewing theatre (too much information - Ed)
I certainly DO remember it...doubt if I'd be able to read it these days though, since my eyesight's not what it was.
[Note for younglings: this refers to IT's penchant for crazy fonts and colourschemes, not (much) to tfd decrepitude.]
