I just wanted to share this because I love it

I am not sure how many people know this album but I was listening to it at work today, it is one I keep on my PC for those moments where I need calm.

I wasn't a fan of Talk Talk in their earlier poppy days but this album is something else altogether.

It is hard to categorise; dreamy, shifting, ambient, sparse in places, lush in others, flowing but with odd discordant surprises, Spirit of Eden has everything.

Anyway, I know that DarceysDad is a fan so he won't mind seeing this here.

I just hope that other people give it a listen if they don't know it.

The Rainbow

Eden

Desire

Inheritance

I Believe In You

Wealth

Enjoy - let me know what you think too!

Simply THE greatest album of all-time, imo.

See? I just knew you'd like it, DsD!

Carole - you have yet to post anything I don't like and seeing as I don't foresee a Coldplay post coming up that's likely to continue - isn't it?
Their earlier "poppy" stuff was the soundtrack to my Catalonia days and I do like it but this is something else...

That's funny, I bought this albm a while ago now on the strength of Dsd's recommendations, and only last week, I finally checked out Colour Of Spring.

....an album of great beauty, one of those classic albums that somehow reaches cult status amongst 'the true believers', whilst having about zero impact on the general public....

You kind of saw this one coming after Colour of Spring. Nobody saw COS from what was then, just another synth pop 80's band - an 80's Coldplay if you will. So I give the edge to COS, everyone I know who ever heard it loved it at the time - be interested to know what Ejay thinks, listening today, 20 years on? SOE probably ages better. It is a great album, I Believe In You is one of my favourite songs of all time & the album makes my top 50. The final album, Laughing Stock also moves further into ambient jazzery & is well worth a listen, as is the Mark Hollis solo.

Shoey, think at the moment I'm finding it's not what I was looking for. It's not he hybrid between SOE and the earlier more synthy, poppy stuff I thought it would be, I think the song Time It's Time fits what I was after. To me it's much closer to SOE.

@ Blimpy - ta, for that; I didn't have a scooby.

@ ejay & Shoey - interesting to hear the perspective of someone working their way back from SoE to tCoS. In spite of my then much narrower rock tastes at the time, I'd become intrigued by Talk Talk's Dum Dum Girl and Renee on It's My Life when a mate's girlfriend played the cassette on a long van journey once. When tCoS was released they played live on The Tube: my jaw dropped at Give It Up, and I went and bought tCoS immediately. Loved it instantly. I bought SoE as soon as it came out, and didn't love it instantly. But it wasn't long before I did, and by God, I wouldn't be without it now. It might just be that perfect prophet called "Hindsight", but I could see tCoS coming from IML; I could see the direction they were heading to from tCoS to SoE, but not the distance of the journey.

Must go get tea off the cooker ...

I like it. It's reminiscent of 'Blade Runner' in places, and reminds me of my ex (a Talk Talk fan)and his bedsit in Bishopston with a 2-bar electric fire and a lot of strange substances.
