One million miles is a long way to fall

Something sweet and mellow for Sunday morning.. and maybe I can squeeze this sublime slice of Philly disco/soul in as Music You Wouldn't Necessarily Expect From The Pferd...?

Next week.. the Nilpferd glam meets hard rock mix...

(Only kidding)

Here's something I came across on a great compilation Shane sent me, which is just too tangenital for RR...

And the associated sample, as far as I can tell, from Ras Ibuna.. Diverse Doctrine.

'divers' is a great tune on 'Future World Funk - Volume II' I do believe... (dive by babybird also hit me when I read the theme in the paper) but obviously diving is on purpose - falling you cannot help...
'Mrs Chombee Takes The Plunge (DJ Food Mix)' would lose out on that technicality and 'Epistomology Suite: Don't Fall' by Diplo is the antithesis - but that didn't stop Lennys 'I CAN'T Forget' getting in forgetting!!!

Didn't stop me mentioning Mrs Chombee on RR, either.. though you'd have been the only one to notice it.. that's an interesting angle though as regards the involuntariness of falling, which neatly disqualifies all of my noms this week, dammit, besides Tricky/Gravediggaz Psychosis...

...the theory about falling not being voluntary, would ummm fall flat on it's face/ or at least become very messy - when suicide (of the jumping kind) came into the equation.

In a way it would be a thought process that gets you to that desperate point so would be ones own choice... but it is definite falling though.

Glad I was away being kept busy this weekend - this could have twisted my tiny mind right up in knots.

Right. I was tempted to try getting Mr. Nichols zedded a second time, talked myself down though.

The words "dexter", "philly" and "soul" in one sentence ellicit an immediate click from me. Smooth, Herr Hippo.

Cheers FP, thought it might tickle your fancy.. it was the perfect thing for a sunny, thawing Sunday (try saying that with your mouth full)

Sweet, indeed I didn't expect that from you.
While I have you, Shane and FP here, and if Aba could show himself too, I'm going to Berlin this week, what should I do?

Not sure how into museums you are.. the Jewish Museum is a fantastic experience quite apart from the exhibition, and the Pergamon Museum has some amazing artefacts.

The Hackescher Markt is a great place to browse for crafts, arts, and Ostalgia.

If you like Vietnamese food, try Sian in Prenzlauer Berg.

It's worth taking a walk along the surviving bits of Wall near Checkpoint Charlie, and visiting the Reichstag dome, though not if you have to wait for an hour. (If you can, take a small child- you get to skip the queue through a side entrance).

Can't really say much about clubs, music venues etc. as we were there last with Mara.. all my other tips are more child oriented.

You need to visit southern Germany, just to balance up.. always a bed here in the Nilpferd swamp, and Mara is coming along nicely learning rock fills on her new drum kit..

dond to the Jewish Museum.. it's just amazing/ powerful/ thought provoking... if you only do one thing that is the one to head for.

possibly still hapening... does depend in which part you are based:

kitsch old-school at Clärchen's Ballhaus

and Kaffee Burger is/was a twice-monthly event GDR style with Balkan Beat(ish) goings on.

mostly I would walk and look and stumble on something interesting.. (I was photographing graffiti and re-tracing the wall, last time) .. oh it's probably bloody freezing.. so I'd sit and drink coffee and beer by a lovely fire.. after having brought extra layers of clothes!!!! (at least that's what we did last time we were there- 5 years ago now - before sprog)

peaceful days..sigh.

Thanks for the tips, I don't think I'll be going out much at night as I'm visiting my sister and her 4 kids. I've been to the Jewish Monument, but never actually inside the museum. Otherwise, when it comes to museums, I've been conditioned by the ones here, where, since they're free-ish, one can go in and out without the feeling of needing to get your money's worth and see every single thing.

Oh rats we didn't coordinate that one very well, did we??? I was there for the festival and saw Pearce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor looking actually like they were scowling at one another... Here's my list, Frenchy:
- Hotel Adlon for Irish coffee in the lobby.
- Restaurant Weinschenke Weinstein in the Lychenerstrasse 33 in the Prenzlauer Berg. Great wine restaurant.
- Art nouveau museum Brohan Museum just opposite the Charlottenburg which in itself is very nice too. I saw posters for a Dali exhibition too.
If you start off walking from the Brandeburg gate to the Siegesauele and then walk a bit further you'll land on a great flea market too. Amuse-toi bien!!
Oh and Cafe Einstein is a must too. You might just bump into Herr Goettsching...

Well a fetid swamp woul be warm wouldn't it?!
Lovely weather here today, and yesterday, picking up nephew Cassiel from school, what do I see on the blackboard? The lyrics to 'spill favourite Ani-Kuni!

Thanks for the bonus tips FP, my sister went to see L'autre Dumas but was unimpressed, that's the only film she managed to see.
