The Gourds get on the blog

The first time I ever visited San Antonio, my son met me at the airport in his SUV (which looked huge to me until we got on the freeway...man, those Texans go for BIG cars) and when he turned the engine on, out from the stereo blasts Brucie's The Rising. Hooray, thought I, he's put that on specially for his aged parent. Aw. But then, straight away, he took it off and put something else on! I was outraged...

...and of course, not inclined to give the gatecrasher any of my attention, on principle...

...and then after the first few bars I was sitting up straight going "WHAT is THIS!!!" Yes, you've guessed it: it was the Gourds' first album Dem's Good Beeble. So I wanted to put some Gourds music up for your consideration, but I've been a bit intimidated by reading about people's struggles with players: from the Gourds site though you can listen to the whole of their latest album, so just click here and then click 'Listen'.

The problem is, this new album isn't really typical. So, if you were thinking you wanted something a bit more bluegrass, with surreal lyrics and wacky arrangements...try out some of their earlier product!

BTW for those who don't know, the Gourds' fiddle player is Michelle Shocked's brother Max Johnston!
