Jeeves explains a thing or to to Pater Darcum minor

What ho! Had a bit of a rum do with old Pater Darcum the other evening. Poor chap wasn't totally au fait with his Deezer thingy, don't you know. "Darce, old fruit" I said to him. "No use at all asking me. I can just about manage to play my old 78s on the gramaphone and that's my limit. Ask Jeeves - he's awfully clever with all those new fangled internet whizz-bangs." And, as ever, Jeeves just sighed in that way he has and explained:
  • - Create a deezer account
  • - Spend many happy hours creating your playlist.
  • - When you've done, click on 'blog' and a window opens with a humungously long link which is actually the deezer player
  • - You have to choose your colour scheme, langauge and de-select automatic play or it kicks into action as soon as you open the blog.
  • - Now here's the clever bit - when you create a message in Blogger, you have to be in html edit mode otherwise you will simply get the link published as text. You select html mode at the top right hand side of the message window.

"Darce", I said, "awfully clever chap, that Jeeves. Worth his weight in gold. But don't tell him that, will you?" Tally Ho!

Thanks for introducing me to Deezer, Frogprincess. I must be getting out of touch here en campagne as I hadn't come across it before. We listen to last.fm a lot as it's great when you want radio with no duff tracks and no chat, but deezer will be fab for getting more into French music. I've tried Fench radio but have trouble fathoming out the track names and artists even with reasonable French (are they speaking French or what?) and a lot of what they do play sounds like singalongamax in French (perhaps it is!). Deezer also passes my 'Bridge of Sighs' test so I'm going to spend a happy afternon exploring (once the small hound has been walked).

De rien, but the nec plus ultra of music radios in France IMHO and not much talking at all is FIP. Their frequency is 92,3 FM if you are living in France. Otherwise google the word FIP and you can listen on the web. Bonne musique!

fp, I too have just discovered Deezer for myself via your link, so I have some idea what you're talking about now. One problem tho'. I'm trying to create a playlist (to upload to RROS) but some of the tracks won't give me the option of playing or adding to playlist. What gives? Are some tracks off limits or do I have to sign up to something else?
No rush with the answer. I'm off to do something useful for the rest of the day. Ta.

Gordonimmel--I had that problem too, at first. On a mac you cntrl-click on them, on a pc you left? click, I think...

FIP is great - we've heard a great mix of French, spanish, asian and N african this afternoon. The online version even tells you not only what you're listening to, but what you've just heard and what's coming.... even more thanks, Frogprincess, we're hooked here in deepest S Champagne!

@ Sarah G - and they get some good people to do live concerts on their Paris studio. Keep an eye on the website. They had Rufus Wainwright in recently - classic. So glad you like it. Don't know what I'd do without FIP to be honest.
@ Gordon - I think if you right click on a song then select 'play' it should work. Hope that helps.

Darce - no prob. Looking forward to your playlist. Hope you weren't peeved by my Bertie Wooster imitation. I thought I'd just post up the instructions for all and sundry in case anyone else wanted to post a deezer player too. It's a rather good way of sharing a playlist but gives you some idea of the humungous task awaiting Dorian. Keeping it down to ten is a nightmare. Rest up a bit while your leg is knitting together - white blood cells n' all that. FP.

I'm having problems with Deezer. Some tracks it refuses to upload for no apparent reason, I can't get more than one track into a playlist, and when I try to copy it to the blog, it's not copying my playlist but something called "undefined" and nothing plays. Any ideas, people?

Frogprincess,

One of the best things about living in Brighton is that you can tune in to FIP on yer bog standard analogue steam radio (91.0 & 98.5FM). It's a bit of a local cult; there's even a club night themed around the station: http://lovefip.freehostia.com/vive.htm

Great to hear, MrDNA. FIP is an endless source of discoveries for me. It's as if I had my own radio station - the programmers have the same taste as me! (bar Dollar)

Hi Mnemonic - very cool photo. Have a try creating a playlist out of existing tracks on deezer and see if you can post it on this blog for us in the form of a player. It worked for me but after about 6 tries. Love Google - use it all the time for my work. Kudos. FP
