Some you might have missed

Bom dia todos! After a long journey I'm finally back. In my opinion, sunny January in Brazil is better than rainy January in London. So this is a test for podbean, which would be much more practical than my previous method. I've tried a few different formats to see which ones work. SO if all works there should be some songs that weren't available on youtube.
Turns out the m4a and m4p tracks don't work:

Any chance you could post Hora Do Espanto? I couldn't find it anywhere. I've been curious about Baile Funk for a while.

Ejay: Nice set, loved the Serge but it was too short, just a tast; MSTU I knew nothing of but liked the cut. I did a google and discvovered they're from my old hometown, Sheffield, I did a youtube and found a lot of teir stuff there, muchas gracious, a nice turn on.

Just did steenbeck.

goneforeign, that track is slightly too short indeed, but you couldn't sustain such lyrics over more than 30 , however he uses the same "riddim" for another song called Pas Long Feu. They're both form a compilation caled Aux Armes Et Caetera, which collects all his reggae stuff, and all the backing tracks are great, I think all done by Sly & Robbie.

Ejay: Can I find that online anywhere?

I see it's on deezer, but it won't play at this time for some reason:

Thanks, Ejaydee, I liked the Bonde Do Tigrao a lot. Just out of curiousity, what were the Beastie Boys to hiphop? I feel like I only half understand what you mean by that. (not being contentious, just curious)

A musical historian could explain my point better, but I meant that the Beastie Boys come later after the birth of the movement and white middle class, which gave them crossover appeal, as well as their outrageousness. Baile Funk is already outrageous, but they seem to vary their subject matter a bit. I also think that the Beastie Boys had a not very serious aspect to them, and Bonde Do Role clearly do. Hope I sort of made sense.
Meanwhile, here's another Funk song that was a big hit a few years ago:

That makes sense. I think the BBoys have a lot to answer for because of their first album, which was so not-very-serious as to be idiotic. But their later stuff, thought still frequently funny, is a bit weightier. And their depth of musical knowledge and affection for certain kinds of music (as evidenced in their allusions and samples) has always been very appealing to me.

Liking the Baile Funk.

I liked the S. Gainsbourg a lot, I found the album on Deezer (which lately only lets me play songs if I add the whole album to my playlist, which is fine) and the same person that put caetano veloso in my iTunes library put a SG album as well--couleur cafe. Do you know it?

ejaydee said...

Yep, Couleur Cafe is a collection of his jazzy Latin mambo percussion stuff, one of my favourite songs of his is on there: L'eau a La Bouche.

Water to the mouth? Having to do with nothing...On Lala.com they have the Lupe Fiasco album The Cool in it's entirety, I'm listening to it now, and can't believe how much I like it. I guess I was a little prejudiced because of the whole ATCQ thing. I'm sure you've heard it, do you like it?

More like "watering at the mouth". About Lupe Fiasco, I was familiar with him from his first album, especially Kick Push, also check out He Say She Say. The ATCQ "fiasco" was very disappointing, it's one thing to not know a song (in my mind a classic), another not to bother to remember the lyrics when you're meant to be paying an homage, but a whole other thing when you justify your ignorance like that, especially as at the time, he had a song called Dumb It Down, which I think is his best, and possibly the best hip hop song of the year. I'm still definitely going to get his new album though.

Well, you can hear the whole thing on Lala, to help you make up your mind (there's a link on the left of this blog somewhere). Although, I just read the review in the Guardian while I was waiting for RR, and didn't it make me feel like an idiot for liking it.

Oh, you shouldn't believe what you read in the Guardian!
