Sunday Morning Worship

I was lucky enough to find this on 7" recently.

It's "Sanctus" from the Missa Luba, a version of Latin Mass, sung in African style by Congolese children.

It features prominently in one of my favourite films "If..." , and I think was a hit in the 50s or 60s in the UK.

Anyway, it's  very strange and haunting, and succinct, and religious, and has a mental last 20 seconds - the perfect thing for Sunday Morning.

Very nice Blimpy - I haven't seen "If..." for ages but bought it recently on DVD, so this has inspired me to carve out some time to watch it. If only they would hurry up and get "O' Lucky Man" out, I would be a Happy Bunny.

Now then, to continue the Mass theme, check out one of my favourites: The Electric Prunes - "Gloria":

This is quite a nice video to go with it (Apollo Missions etc).

So, all we need now is a Kyrie, a Credo and an Agnus Dei - anyone?!

Rufus Wainwright does a good Agnus Dei, it's off his Want Two LP.

Kyrie is on the b-side of Sanctus, and is jolly good too.

Oh Lucky Man! is a fab film, very deep and symbolic. Amazing stuff.

Agnus Dei - thats Doris Dei's sister...?

Too funny!

credo = I Believe (or is it We Believe) - Frankie Laine?!

For me, the crowning glory of "O Lucky Man" is the fantastic Alan Price soundtrack:

I saw him in concert a few years ago and he did a great version of "Changes" - goose pimple stuff!

I've got the Missa Luba album, 2 copies actually, don't know how that happened, but I'd be happy to post Kyrie, Credo and Agnus Dei plus the rest if I can ever get this audio uploading figured out; normally I'n mot that dumb. And Princess, that was lovely, made my Sunday morning, literally almost fell off me chair.
For what it's worth there's another wonderful piece of choral music, it's Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, op.48.
I have it by the Atlanta Symphony & chorus with Robert Shaw, if you liked Sanctus you'll love this one also.

I've seen the Missa Luba LP for sale on the web for extortionate prices!

Earlier I said I'd post the rest of the album if anyone was interested, just checked youtube and unbelievable, they have it, though a pretty poor version. Check these;

@ beltwaybandit: you can get a region 1 DVD of O Lucky Man from Amazon...then google to get the code to make your player region-free.

If I can do it, anybody can.

I've got a King's College choir version of Faure's Requiem with a boy soprano. One of my most favourite pieces of music.

I was there about 2 years ago, I loved it. But still check the Atlanta Symphony, they're not good for much but for choral, no-ones better; I even have a section in my CD library titled "choral', it's almost all them.
