I love the K. Frimpong. Everything about it. Just donded over at the Guardian proper. According to Wiki it's Ghanian High Life. That's early Fela, no? High Life? Sorry my facts are FOGGY. I want to hear more. Which is always good.
The Frimpong is great. I have one other track "Hwehwe Mu Na Yi Wo Mpena" by them on a compilation called Ghana Soundz, I'll post it up tomorrow assuming EJ doesn't do it first. The liner notes define the style as "Frimpong beat"- unfortunately there doesn't seem to have been much of it which survived, see the Guardian article I ref'd on RR.
I only have this song from him, which is absolutely brilliant. I only saw another song of his on a compilation lately. It's amazing how much Western African compilations you'll find in HMV these days.
Yes there's interest GF. I just finished the article, really interesting. Steenbeck, Hi-Life is a typically Ghanaian sound, so I'm not sure you could associate with Fela.
But he's got a song Highlife Time. It's very early, from a time when I think a lot of his songs were more about having a good time and less political. Maybe he was appropriating?
OK, I just posted three cuts, hope you like 'em. Ejay, I was hoping we could connect next Saturday but giving it a bit more thought I've changed my mind about coming, it's just so much trouble and expense and I've got to the stage that I absolutely hate flying, or at least being crammed in a seat for 12 hours+, so enjoy and write it up for the rest of us, and take some pictures!

Well it would have been one hell of a showing of commitment had you made it GF. Especially since you remembered you hate flying. I hope somebody brings a camera since mine is banjaxed.

Joe Fish, very funny, and I know Fairfax very well, love the backing singers.
If you like Frimpong look for the Gangbé Brass Band, they have one CD, 'Whendo', they're from Benin and played the Festival du Desert, if there's interest I could post some.

Oh, and I'd be interested to hear it too, GF.
