I wanted to nominate this today

It is a sort of "Goodbye" song but it doesn't actually work in a RR context. I'll miss DL, even though he HATES the Grateful Dead!

I mean! Really!!!

I love the Sundays, this song is fab!

On the Grateful Dead front, I found the only 'Dead song in my collection ("Dead Star", from 'The Dreamers' soundtrack) listened to all nine minutes of it and quite frankly , it's very very pointless and very very dull.

Am I missing something?

I think you are, Blimpy.

The Dead are a band who polarise people though. The real experience is the Dead playing live. Check out YouTube for some of their performances.

I'm rather fond of "Anthem of the Sun" and it does have a very lovely cover, too. Try "That's it for the Other One" before you give up, Blimpy.

Try listening to songs like "Ripple", "Box of Rain", "Bird Song", "Cassidy", "Bertha", "Looks like Rain" or "Eyes of the World".

I'd say try and get hold of albums like "American Beauty" or "Workingman's Dead" too.

There is an acoustic live album called "Reckoning" that is really good too. Less of the jamming and a lot more focussed on the songs.

Okay, thanks for the recommendations everyone - I will give them one more go.

"Dead Star" seemed very tame compared to a lot of the modern psychedelic bands I listen to.

Thanks for this, CB. Just returned from the scarysupermarket, where I thought 'must nom the Sundays', when that unpleasant 90s dance remake came over the pa.

I had high hopes of this lot too...what happened?

First off, Blimpy - do you actually mean "Dark Star"?

Secondly, The Sundays. I think that they went onto a pretty much permanent sabbatical around 1998 because Harriet Wheeler and David Gavurin got married and started a family. I think they are just doing the family raising thing.
