melanistic pheasants

Thanks Ms. Steen, I've never seen those before, definitely a pheasant but unusual colors. I love the 'normal' pheasants that I see by the thousands in East Anglia whenever I visit my sister there. We were once lucky enough to have a Golden pheasant in the garden, have you seen them, they're beautiful.
I just googled both melanistic and golden, there's lots of info and pictures up there.
It's got me thinking it would be nice to have a couple in the garden.

These pheasants are mutants! I looked them upon www.pheasant.com. They also had some Pheasant Chick movies but I was a bit disappointed.
I don't think I've ever (knowingly) seen these. Are they common?
Not long 'til the glorious 12th now...

What's the glorious 12th? I don't think they're common, I've never seen them before. Regular pheasants are quite common here, and unfortunately they don't have a lot of car sense, they'll meander slowly onto very busy roads.

Goneforeign, I have seen some golden pheasants, and some called, I think, Lady Amherst. But not in the wild. Well, we got quite far with the duck theme a while back, I wonder if there are any songs about geese and pheasants. Extra points for a song about a melanistic pheasant.

Pheasant music? There's the much-sampled 70's Billy Cobham classic The Pleasant Pheasant, with George Duke and Michael Brecker..

Well done, Nilpferd, and I love the song. Now for a song about a melanistic Brazilian Pheasant listening to hip hop that makes him cry in a room of a house at the end of a hall with a twist in it. Actually, I think that might make quite a good song.

Nothing to do with Pheasants, Steenbeck, but I just found this and it might appeal...

Melanistic didn''t register immediately, but think 'melanin' think black'. My Boxer had a skin problem a year ago where her coat started turning very dank, the vet prescribed Melatonin which did the trick. Google Melanistic Pheasants.

August 12 is the start of grouse shooting - the pheasant season (at least in Scotland) doesn't start till October 1. I hate it cos they do it all round my house, although I've asked the farmer in question not to.

Actually I hate it anyway, wherever they do it.

Yeah but what's the point of being a landowner if you can't kill stuff?

Nilpferd, I forgot to say thanks for the link to the little monsters. It does appeal. And Sherlock Jr. Was picked for Clip Joint!! Yay!

Cheers Steenbeck! Reminds me I have to watch Sherlock Jr again, I got it on DVD after someone mentioned it last year- I think it was a blog on optical trickery in films- the scene where Keaton jumps through the window and transforms himself into a woman got mentioned.
On the little monsters site, I particularly liked the Martin, Medeski and Wood track "where's the music?". Glad you liked it- I still owe you for the Samorost site, it's been a favourite of my daughter since you mentioned it last year, she keeps coming back to it.
