Fart-tah-tah-tah-ing...is such sweet sorrow

Mr McFlah has asked me most politely to step down from my guest editorship of the Spill, with the following wise words:

Speng, 1975 needs you. If you don't return to 1975 the time continuum will be irreversibly disrupted, punk will never happen, and we'll all be listening to Cliff Richard and Tom Jones in 2008......

He also asked me to publish my reply, which reads as follows:

Mr McFlah (May I call you Blimpy?)

You know, you may have a point there, sir...

I had been thinking of retiring anyway, following the recent financial crisis. Some would no doubt echo 'before they give you the boot old chap' but actually I can see now that I have reached a new plateau in my career as a philanderer from which there is no point in running - time is finally catching up with old 'buzzwagon' Brian.

Better to take an 'early', embrace the inevitable, accept the handshake and move upward and onward to sunnier climes. Maybe i'll just head back over to Mallorca and move in with my sister (she bats for the other side you know) the winter is much less harsh there, and who knows what a beach full of bathing beauties might do for the old libido - could be the start of something big for Brian Speng

Toodle pip, its been a fine thing to associate with you and the others at the jolly old Spill Blimpy, sir. I raise a glass of fine old Sherry to you all.

Cheerio now!

Brian

p.s. My closing credits acknowledge my inspiration

So long, one and all!

B.S.

Goodbye Speng.

Your lack of education was more than compensated for by your keenly developed moral bankruptcy, I shall miss you, I shall...

Finished off the blessed Sherry it seems.

Gutted with my decision to drop out obviously, but, on the other paw, made up that Maddy chose a nomination of mine for this week's A list!

Brian Speng goes out with a bang as usual.

Hurrah!

Blimpy, make sure Speng doesn't try to smuggle any of that Viagra when he goes back to the 60's. The havoc that could cause on the whole space time continuum!

So can we come out from behind the photocopier now? There's still a strong hint of Brut aftershave in the air. Someone open the window, will you...? I'll miss the old reprobate. Hope the sexual revolution doesn't...

Never mind "Being John Malcovich" - who's going to own up to "Being Brian Speng" then??

Sorry to burst your bubble, Speng, but it really wasn't that long at all.

Come of Blimpy! Come on you lot!! Surely you can do better than that...what's YOUR best guess? Which one of us was it?

Well Speng was originally created by Sourpus. But DsD seemed strangely absent at the time when Speng put in his first appearance. Was that whole who is Brian Speng post designed to throw us off Speng's true identity?

Nope, not me. I stayed out of most of the Speng threads as the whole thing actually made me a little uneasy, particularly when it made it back to RR. Don't ask me why - and I hope I haven't upset the real protagonist - but the joke wore pretty thin pretty quickly when it it headed off into unreconstructed sexual innuendo dressed in post-modern irony.

Blimey, I'm a wet blanket tonight, aren't I?! I think this fighting with Firefox, and finding online life no better, has rather dampened my mood.

Sorry everyone.

So nice to see you again (albeit briefly) over at RR Darce! The clamour for your return starts here...

Personally, I thought that was the whole point with "Speng" though - I think he wanted to set the cat among the pigeons; liven things up a little. Bit of an iconoclast, I felt.

So long Speng - whoever you were.

Here's mud in your eye!

The big 'clue' was also, surely, in those initials - it was all just so much B.S. at the end of the day - no harm intended im sure.

Bah! Going to have to close my detective agency. Speng's style was so not you DsD, which in a strange way, would have made it so great if it was you. Just hopeful it was a vehicle for comeback on the mothership, I guess.

And to think i got hassled for upsetting the peace over on RR...

ok, Speng, reveal yourself.

On 2nd thoughts, that may not be such a good idea .
