Reggae Comp: Rub-A-Dub-A-Bubbling Under

As a tributary to GoneForeign's magnificent Reggae playlist, here's a brief selection of personal favourites. By the way, I challenge you to listen to the Rupie Edwards track henceforth, especially on this site, and not imagine you're hearing the refrain, "Spenga...spenga...spenga..."

Rupie should rename that tune "The Theme From Speng" - great track by the way

Love that Natural-ites cut, how did I miss 'em, are they an English/Jamaican group, when did they appear? Ditto Rupie Edwards, I know an old [70's] version of this song , is he 'English'?

I know very little about either of them - these are firmly in the category of songs I loved for years but only in the downloading age did I make the effort to find out who recorded them (and whether the versions I've got here match up with the ones from my memory, I couldn't be 100%). The Spenga track (it's on auto-correct now) I think I just know from a kind of South London osmosis as a kid. And Pictures On The Wall was one of the tracks (along with The Passenger and My Baby Just Cares For Me) played every night by Gordon the miserable Scottish DJ at the Mardi Gras in Liverpool in the mid-80s in the last flush of post-punk eclecticism before first student indie, then hip-hop and rare groove, and ultimately Balearic and the first stirrings of acid house stratified the club scene.

Great to hear Eek-A-Mouse & Natural-Ites again. Picture On The Wall is a top 5 all time reggae tune if ever there was one.

Speng's theme tune was great too & it's nearly called Eerie Feelings - how perfect is that!

I'm sure Speng would also claim to having a Steel Pulse where it matters, but I won't get into the biological detail of that one.
