THE REGGAE COMPILATION PLAYLIST

OK, Here's the playlist, there's 20 cuts, many of my original posts but some replaced by others and I already had some at Podbean so I include those at no extra charge. Some great music here, check the basslines, especially on the Dennis Brown cut, Sly & Robbie - s'wonderful! That's Jimmy Riley above.

OK, couple of corrections, obviously Many Rivers aint BMW, it's Jimmy Cliff of course, and that 96° in the shade, somewhere they can't handle degree symbols.
The Burning spear accapella piece is from the film Rockers, Spear stands knee deep in the water with natural sounds and bright moonlight, one of those memorable moments.
I find Podbean difficult to select specific tracks, solution, start with number one and they'll play in sequence.

Brilliant, gf. I came by to post a few of the names I'd mentioned in your previous post but this is a mighty selection.

Re. Book of Rules, it's from an Island album, Night Food, from 1976, The Heptones were Leroy Sibbles, Earl Morgan and Barry Llewellyn. Wiki has a page, here's a bit:
They went on to record with Joe Gibbs, Harry J, for whom they cut the classics "Country Boy" and "Book of Rules" (itself based on an American poem called "A Bag of Tools" by R.L.Sharpe, written early in the 20th Century) in 1973. Barry Llewellyn and Harry Johnson wrote it, it was a big hit in Ja.

oh hurrah! i didn't finish writing the blog t'other night until past midnight because i kept getting distracted looking up goneforeign's suggestions in his earlier post, now here they all are in a handy playlist: as mentioned on the mothership just now, my pa is in town this weekend so we'll have a lot of fun playing this on the laptop in the kitchen later. three cheers for goneforeign!

I know that isn't The Redemption Song that everybody loves but it has special significance for me. The year after Bob died a day was devoted to his memory at Reggae Sunsplash in Ja. At about 3am on a brilliant tropical moonlit night Dean Frasier came on unannounced and before a crowd of about 20,000 he played that on his alto sax, the audience became dead silent, many weeping. It was a memorable moment that I shall never forget.
