Mogwai Vs. Fuck Buttons

As requested from me pals, here's Mogwai's remix of Fuck Buttons' track "Colours Move".
The two bands are touring together just now, and this is from the split record you can get at the gigs. The other track is a Fuck Buttons remix of "Mogwai Fear Satan".

I would like to add at this juncture, that I named one of my cats after Mogwai, and once saw them play to about 12 people "back in the day".

Unrelated quiz: anyone recognise the frame I took from a certain movie?

Colours Move remixed by Mogwai for Fuck Buttons

If you like the mp3 - buy their stuff!!

It'd be a good fight, I'll say that much. As for the tour - Manchester Academy. October 23rd. THE SAME NIGHT AS I GO TO SEE ELBOW AT THE APOLLO FOR MRS FROD'S BIRTHDAY. Someone ought to be punished for that scheduling...

On the old 'gwai, I bow to Blimpy's old skool chops, but still hold up Manchester Planet K in '99 as a big night in my musical life.

Fuck Buttons, though, I've not been able to get into yet. I've only played the album a few times and it then got usurped. I fully accept that I haven't let it bed in yet at all, so I might give it another try later on. Bright Tomorrow, of course, is immense in the most immense way.

The film? No idea.

Dancing? But of course. Who's going to lead?

Bright Tomorrow - dondled!

Who's going to lead? Why, Nilpferd, d'accord.

(terrible shame bout that scheduling, like buses eh? )

I first saw Mogwai on the 8th june 1997 - at the Leadmill in Sheffield, they played:

ithica 27o9
angels vs aliens
summer
tracy
a place for parks
i am not batman
lower
like herod
mogwai fear satan

they had brendan playing with them then, and it was mindblowing.

'Unrelated quiz' would've been a bit harder if you hadn't left the name of the film at the top of the picture!

I've only seen the 'Gwai once - it was when Brendan O'Hare from Teenage Fanclub was still in the band, so I'm guessing it was maybe 1997; Arab Strap may have been supporting too. I remember the evening being a little … loose.

I bought a copy of Young Team from Oxfam about a year ago and I've never played it. I'm just not sure I'm ever in the right mood to listen to Mogwai these days…

I'll give your link a quick go though, Blimpy, since I'm here.

@mr dna,

yeah, irealised the name was there once i posted it. screengrabs eh?

go put on "mogwai fear satan" off young team, you w2on;t regret it. And if your copy is on vinyl, i'll take it off your hands for a fiver!!!

I do have some Mogwai vinyl: Summer, New Paths to Helicon and 4 Satin - but Young Team's a CD, I'm afraid.

That Colours Move remix is OK; for some reason it made me sad that Top of the Pops isn't on anymore because it would be great to see something like that on Top of the Pops.

it absolutely would, the audience's faces would be a rare treat.

Blimpy's Record And Tape Exchange is now open for business! All unloved vinyl gratefully received!!!

That track is just lovely! Cheers Blimpy.

I've actually never seen Mogwai, one of the bands I have in permanent ink on the To See list.

Turned a ticket down once from my brother, because they were playing Chester Northgate Arena; a definite contender for worst venue in the UK - have we done the best/worst venues thing? I can't remember.

thanks for that Blimpy - great stuff.

If you haven't bought Mogwai's new album yet, it's another good un!

I also saw 'em in 1997 at the Fleece and Firkin in Bristol. They were incredible and made what was essentially a dirty pub sound like a giant space dome. Also met Gruff Rhys from Super Furries at the same gig, he had come over from Wales especially to see Mogwai and was sitting at the back on his own mumbling in Welsh..

..I've been looking for a vinyl version of Young Team for a while too, it's the only 'Gwai i've got on CD, but I suspect it may be one of the few albums that work better on CD

See that Mogwai have cancelled their N. American tour because Martin's pacemaker is trying to exit his body through his skin. Guess loud music & mechanical heart devices don't mix. Get well soon Martin.
