There's an awful lot of substandard stuff on it too. It was recorded very early in the Street Legal tour and the band hadn't really settled in. I saw them in Gothenborg near the end of the tour and it was one of the best gigs of my life (Bob Dylan is on record as saying he thought so too) and they wanted to release that as the live album but some w*nker mucked up the tapes. There's a lot more on you tube. Type in "Dylan Budokan" and it should come up.
If you decide you really like it, I'll do some judicious burning.
Ah, my first time was the Festival Hall in 1964 and they put "Blowing in the Wind" in brackets on the posters so people would know who he was. I've lost count of the times I've seen him since but I think the Street Legal one was the best.
Now you see, I'm obviously missing something about Dylan. I hated that, it fit everything about that whiny, never-mind-fitting-the-vocal-to-the-beat-feel-the-profundity, tuneless voice that sets my teeth on edge.
I KNOW he writes great songs, and I can't comment on him live, and I'm REALLY sorry, you two, but BLEURGH!
Woah, I'm not a fan of his later singing voice, but this version is something else. I'm not sure if I like this better or the original. THAT'S how you cover a song. Although it is cheating a bit of it's your own.
Budokan was my first Dylan album! I know this is bad and wrong but such is life. I confess to being very disappointed hearing the original 'I want you'. Too jaunty. On the other hand, the less said about Dylan's 'reggae' version of 'Don't Think Twice' the better. DD, since you've introduced me to the DBTs I've long thought they'd be a good backing band for his Bobness...
@ Proudfoot - Good call about DBT to back BD, particularly now that John Neff has rejoined and "the legendary" [it says here] Spooner Oldham is guesting regularly.
Have you heard their contribution to the last Bettye LaVette album? Apart from the shocking production/mix it worked very well. Patterson Hood has sworn never again though, so maybe Bob won't need his number after all!

Wow! Why haven't I got this record?

I've only seen him once, but as that was the Albert Hall in 1966, it was kinda memorable!
