ROBOTS!

Watch out people, I am READY when Dorian announces this week's topic of songs whose videos contain robots.

My boys like these, but you might want to do a cursy-check before showing your kids. Something I probably should have considered years ago, as the other day Malcolm announced that he wants to change his first name to the F-word. I said I'd look into the proper legal procedures. I'd love to see how his teacher handled roll call.

It would have been something else. He could've gotten a bunch of interesting nicknames, like Fukko, or Fokkety F@ck.

Funny you should say that, because when I was walking him to school today he said that some kids were calling him names. My heart sank, and I asked what they called him and he said "Milky Milk." (Clever transformation of "Malcolm," nothing to do with his drinking habits.) Well, it's not so bad, it was a little hard not to laugh, actually, but it hurt his feelings. I guess if your name is "fuck" you sort of cut the name calling off at the knees. Do your worst, it can't be worse than my real name!

That's a good strategy. Although I think it could either way, it could be a massacre. Look at Ben Stiller's character in Meet the Parents, Gaylord Focker. Maybe after a first flurry, it would die of exhgaustion, sort of like a sugar rush, too much of a good thing.

As a fellow sample enthusiast, did I ever show you these?:

On the subject of sweary kids, my four year old won't stop saying the word "buggers" - which is all my fault!

You get out what you put in, tis true!

Ejaydee--Love those sample websites. They're dangerous, because I could spend the whole day tracing songs from one thing to another. There's no end to it.

Saneshane--I loved all those videos!! I had no idea the song was that old. Amazing. I like the song more the more I hear it. I have some CDs for you, they're all labeled and It's just a question of me making it to the post office, which is around the corner. Don't know what my problem is. It's beyond laziness...

And Blimpy, you're right...I could pretend I have no idea where Malcolm heard those words, but I'd be LYING. It's all from me. Luckily, at 5, he's old enough to know he's not supposed to use them. His brother on the other hand, we like to call "the parrot," and he's a pre-moral 2-yr-old, Trouble ahead.

The pedant in me obliges me to point out that numbers 2 to 4 were actually all samples from the Gunter Kallman Choir version of Daydream.

Hmm, Daydreaming has it's own wikipedia entry. What a long and interesting history for a simple song. I guess daydreaming is a popular pastime.

Ejaydee, I'm really liking ultragraphik, although it makes me feel that my knowledge of music is minute. Just the album cover art alone is inspiring, and it's interesting to see records from the 60s and 70s compared with more modern trends in sleeve graphics. I was listening to some French Hip Hop, it's interesting, because (I should understand more) but I can listen to the words as sounds rather than for the lyrics.
