Way Out East
As promised (threatened?) here's a little Podbean including They Might Be Giant's take on Istanbul (not Constantinople). Lonnie, if you're out there, I'd be interested to know if it does anything for you - at least it would be heartening to hear that you might consider removing it from your worst songs of all time list!
Also here, Jonathan Richman's beautiful version of The Sweeping Wind (Kwa Ti Feng), Scritti Polliti's Asylums in Jerusalem, the spuriously included Indian by Eg & Alice (any excuse) and to round things off, Yoshimi's here to sort out all your Manga-style robot problems for you. Is there a better rhyming couplet in contemporary pop than this:
"She's gotta be strong to fight them,
So she's taking lots of vitamins"

Donds for the tenuous one, Toffee. Added the Eg album to my iPod last month, strangely enough. Along with the Jesus Loves You remix of 'Doesn't Mean That Much To Me', which still sounds good in that early-90s-very-much-of-its-time-dance-music way.
Liking the Scritti, the Lips and the Jonathan also, but I'm afraid TMBG gets the thumbs down;-)

Oh THAT'S Istanbul (Not Constantinople) ?!?!? Always found it to be rather irritating, to be honest, and TMBG don't save it.
Never heard the JR before; that was sweet.
Green Gartside nearly always scores with me, so thumbs up for that.
Don't know Eg, but am definitely up for finding out more now; thanks.
Never been a FL fan, so have never expanded my collection beyond the album this came from. Can't quite put my finger on why, to be honest, and don't disagree with the suggestion that I'd probably like them more if I saw one of those OTT live shows.
But your question "Is there a better rhyming couplet ..." is a challenge that deserves a thread all of its own if I can EVER get caught up with the office decoration / course ppwk backlog!!
Later maybe -
Oh, and I forgot to say, ToffeeBoy . . . best of luck for the rest of the season - AFTER this afty !!
;o)
DD - Thanks - not feeling too confident!
