the perfect beat

I was thinking maybe the 'Spill is good for posting things you're tempted to post because they contain a small element of the topic and you love the song, but you don't want to clutter RR. For instance, the Perfect Beat, which I think is a near perfect song, contains the line "It's lifted right from the sounds that you hear in the hood when you sleep," but obviously, too tenuous to waste Dorian's time with. Also this post is an excuse to ask the question...Does anyone else think it's less fun when people are being more careful about donds? Conversation seems to have abated, and dondage seems to represent the whole idea of sharing music that we love. ***Middle of the night musings have caused me to reconsider and retract the question. I do believe more thoughtful consideration is valuable in all things.***

Evening, sb. Agreed, this week's column in particular makes - quite frankly - dull reading by our high standards. And granted I haven't had as much time as I'd like recently, but I also think I'm discovering less new stuff recently. If that turns out to be a direct result of the need to spend more time justifying our own nominations rather than listening to someone else's, then I think we'll all be less entertained by our weekly ritual.

That would be not only a shame, but also possibly the start of a slippery slope from enthusiastic participation to (God forbid) mere casual browsing. There's a nasty precipice at the bottom of that decline - disinterest.

Hope I'm wrong of course. Anyway, back to the last of the chores before bed . . .

. . . oh and sorry, but unsurprisingly, Talib Kweli isn't for me!

I think it is a shame that we are having to be careful about posting but I can see Dorian's point.

He has to wade through 600+ entries and weed out all the stuff that is irrelevant (I am guilty of posting some myself), stuff already listed and other filler.

On the other hand, I enjoy the really tangential posts a lot.

Donds are the heart and soul of the blog I think. I love it when I nominate something that others dond.

I limited myself last week, even though I wanted to nominate Dreams by the Allmans off of their first album, but I had said I'd only nominate a couple of songs so I didn't.

I love the slide playing on that one though.

Sorry, everybody, I'm feeling bad about this post.I swore I wouldn't post anymore Talib Kweli, and I don't like to complain about RR, because I think Dorian's right and more thoughtful Nominations and Seconds is without doubt a good idea. It was stress and fatigue speaking. I was going to erase the post, but don't want to erase other people's comments. And it is a good song--it samples Bob Marley!! I promise, last ever Kweli from me.

Don't care for it myself, steenbeck...but I think you should post whatever you damn well please.

...btw, Blimpy, the current poll hasn't got a 'never heard of any of 'em' button. I thought 'Daydream' was by the Lovin' Spoonful.

I think I'm just bitter because I haven't had a snigle second this week. This is the true crossover to the UD definition of Dondle...

Man, I haven't gotten [a second] in weeks, how about a dondle?
I'll go get my dondle mitt.

That's funny, before I read this, I had just dondled you, I' m usually your most reliable dondler, but I wasn't too into it this week for several reasons. It's not the first time Dorian (rightly) complains about the quality/quantity, and it always appeases things for a while, but I bet in a couple of weeks we'll be recommending every "song with the word love in it" or something of Parkesian proportion.
