Last week while perusing a sample-lover's website, I was impressed with the beauty of many of the old record sleeves. This week, a friend's website had a link to LP Cover Lover. Some are what-were-they-thinking? funny, and some are just good design.
I loved that website. That particular cover reminds me of one that's hanging above the door of a Brazilian bar in Paris as you leave. Actually it's the inside cover of a double album. It has an inviting voluptuous blonde in a red dress, and above her it reads "depois do drink", which means "after the drink". I always loved it. A few years after first seeing that album, I was in Rio browsing through records, when, imagine my surprise, I see that same record!! Of course I bought it, but 2 years later, I still haven't played it. I literally only bought it for that cover. Next time I'm in London, I'll definitely digitise it.
Actually, this blog digitised it for me. I'll finally hear it now! But I'm a little afraid the music won't match those wonderful nights at the bar, and the smile this picture left me with as I left.
You know there's books devoted to album covers, I mean REAL ones, classics, Reggae and Jazz etc. I've got a couple. They're all 12" by 12" format. I don't know what percentage of my collection was bought based on the album cover but I remember quite a few.
Ejay: I'm not sure if that's the jazz one I have, I just looked but couldn't see it, I did find however "Stir it Up" Reggae album cover art by Chris Morrow, I like it 'cos I have a lot of what's featured, it just made me realise what a resource it is for scanning. I've got a fair sized shelf of books on the music I enjoy, I've bought every BMW book on the market, it occurs to me that there's probably a lot similar here and that "Books' might be an interesting topic of conversation? The Morrow book's not 12 by 12, it's 10 by 10.

Goddamn, that's a saucy LP cover!
......But why is she contemplating a wee turd?
And why-oh-why does she have a violin-playing chicken on her calf?

DO you have the one of Blue Note covers? Unfortunately it's not 12x12
