I thought I'd post this here, because a 'Spill/RR friend - who shall remain anonymous (but look up this thread's subject number in the Periodic Table for a clue) - thought I was being a little less than humble over on the mothership last week. So ...
I HIT FIFTY A-LISTERS!
... AND PASSED THE MIGHTY J.A.P. IN THE PROCESS!
... AND EVEN PREDICTED THE EXACT PLACE THAT LYLE LOVETT SHOULD TAKE IN THE MEAT TEN, WITH THE EXACT LOGIC THAT OUR GURU USED IN HIS PAPER COLUMN.
But I'll save you all a bum-numbing "Thank you to my agent, banker, chiropodist, dog...." speech, 'cause it's almost time to unleash yet more guitar riffs on an unsuspecting PaulMac in the Impressive Intros topic.
See you all over there.

I'm not bragging (or at least I hope not), I'm just deleriously happy at now having more A-listers than the legend that is jasonaparkes.
But is anyone else having a really hard time getting mothership pages to refresh tonight?
Neither IE or Safari wants to go anywhere near the GU site on this computer. The tardiness is not repeated on other pages ...
Lyle on the list - well done, DsD!
if the blog isn't up by the time my two fingers are done typing this, I'll be off to my bed...
That's 50 more than me DsD! Well done. Maybe by the time you hit 100 I'll have got Carlos Gardel on the A list! Well done, and thanks for your email earlier this week. Thank you.
No, Maki, thank you for your efforts this week. And if you'll pardon the thread-hopping, I think you're right about this week's Intros topic being intellectually poor, but I for one am going to take the opportunity to fill me boots. If Paul wants to write slack parameters, he can live with the consequences. I think the biggest issue may be that it won't make for a very interesting RR read over the course of the weekend.
Demand a best of the 50 playlist to be posted ASAP. You too, Steen & Ejay. Congrats!
Whatever happened to Jasonaparkes? I used to quite enjoy his strange lists...
You big show-off, you. If I ever hit five, I'll be lucky, let alone 50! Well done fella.
well done Rich, and also well done on picking a picture that matches the 'spill colour scheme!
Congratulations DsD :-)
@ Exodus -J.A.P has left RR, but still writes many reviews and is as passionate about music as ever.
Congratulations DsD, due reward for your insomnia, productivity, and ability to mine your musical knowledge and link it to the topics.
I've got one A-lister in well over a year, and as we've discussed before, that was a rebound from one of yours. That's because of my appetite for sleep, waffling instead of nominating, and not always connecting what music I know with the topics.
Exodus, in case you missed it, I did a post here appreciating the Northern Social CDs on 3rd Dec ("About those RR Northern Social CDs"). If you saw it and didn't feel like commenting, that's fine too !
And you're probably aware that it's
another 50th this month as well ?:
nice 50 up Rich..
I admire your passion and dedication.. give them a ton with intros.. should be right up your alley.
(since reading the theme in the paper this morning I've had Fleetwood macs 'the chain' stuck in my jukebox head... with out access to any real sound system to dislodge it.... all togerther now .............! help)
Here's to the next 50, DsD. Cheers!
Thank you very much, one and all.
@ Shoey - a playlist, you say? OK, gimme a day or two: it's Darcey's birthday tomorrow, so in the next 24 hrs I have a house to decorate, a party at Eureka! with 15 3&4y.o.s, a pantomime to attend, guests for a mega home-curry tea back at our house, prezzie-frenzy mess to tidy up, and a hyper-excited pair of girls to calm down after they stuff themselves full of E-numbers. I'm knackered just thinking about it!
@ DaddyPig - yup, well aware of the appointment of the awesome Mr Shankly, but thanks for the link, which I probably would have missed given the manic state of play here.
@ Shane - too kind, but ...
@ exodus - even if what Shane and DP said were true, I still pale into insignificance next to Jason. I do wish he'd pop back into RR more often.
@ B-Mac - but where's the S-prefixing ' gone from the new logo??
@ Shane again - I notice someone nominated F-Mac's The Chain over on the mothership, but here's the thing: the bass riff everyone's thinking about doesn't fit! It's a coda, not an intro.
"Who let the ped[ant]s out?! WHO? WHO?
@darce - it affected the symmetry of the logo, so had to be ditched for aesthetic purposes - a bit like when Glen Matlock got kicked oot the Pistols....
"F-Mac" - love it!!!
Congratulations, DarceysDad!!
Here's a funny thing...I heard a song on the radio today, and I thought I like that, and it seems very familiar. (And I thought it sounds a whole lot like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah). Well, guess what...it was Fanfarlo, and I searched for them on the 'Spill, like I always do, and I saw that I had bought the album when you did a post on it a long long time ago, and...I can't find it! Where could it be hiding? Anyway...I've listened to it a bit on Spotify. And I like it...They do sound an awful lot like CYHSY
Happy birthday to Darcey for tomorrow first off..
next.. that's what i thought about 'the chain' without knowing the technical terms.. it's still stuck though...
...and if I'd been on RR I would have found the song and checked to see if it fitted... (still do it for 'spill playlists - just ignore relevance if I really want to share a tune)
Steen
fanfarlo is arcade fire - CYHSY style all over - bloody great for it and not just because the song 'Harold T. Wilkins, Or How To Wait For A Very Long Time' has a chorus that goes "as sad as saneshane"
Congratulations, DsD... 50 is huge! There's some dignity on getting there, eh? Enjoy!
(kudos about the A-listers too, btw :P )
Fanfario, eh? They were in my shortlist for the Festive 'Spill, but they didn't make it (put them away on a technicality, in fact, their record was Fall 2008, methinks). Btw, Steenbeck, I've been meaning to thank you for your posting of stuff from Some Loud Thunder. I quite liked the first CYHSY, but I sort of managed to avoid their second. And it is a huge leap forward I really wasn't expecting at all! My favourite song in there should be good for this week's RR... you should give that a try, if you haven't already.
Nothing to do with music, I can't even stay on-topic on the 'Spill (or Spill ?) - But DsD and Gordon might like this, regarding the north-west of England's own Stuart Hall's 80th birthday
Ooh-lambretinha, post it and I'll dond it! I'm curious to seewhich track you liked best.
It's "Goodbye to Mother & Cove", steenbeck (I'm not posting it, though, I wouldn't have discovered it if it wasn't for you, so I'm sitting that one out!)
Cheers Dsd. Nice milestone. They should have 50@RR t-shirts for our royal denizens.
See you in another couple years
Congrats DsD, but picking up on Tin's comments about the t-shirts, whatever happened to them?
I'll put in an order for one of those 50@RR T-shirts. At the rate I'm going I won't need it until the year 2024 or so. Keep one aside for me will you?
I'm going to leave it in my will that I be buried in mine. Which I won't earn until a few years later when my surviving RRers miss me and decide to mount a major retrospective on my work here and realize what a poor misunderstood nomist I was.
Sigh
I'll design a 50 t-shirt
with removable zero...(and removable 5) we can then buried you tin - happy in appropriate attire!
luckily it's taking my computer (and me) about 50 years to finish anything - so no rush on the dying front!
I spent the evening seeing 7-9 yr olds doing a Michael Jackson tribute show. I'm much closer than I was this morning.
The removable numbers is a good idea! No need splurging on the hi-grade velcro; they don't need changing very often.
make your own sentences out of my words - they are worse than usual -
bury
bury
bury (is that how you spell bury..? looks odd)
any way tincanman..
too many dodgy jokes could be made about your last statement..
so:
thought you was a Chomskyist, or is that the same as a nomist?
You're just trying to get me to look up what I said last
ah.. if we expected people to remember what they said last.. we would have some sort of device..
like a memory or something - lets make it stick shaped.
http://www.fanfarlo.com/
advent day #12 has picked up on great intros - reinterpreted by flute.. possibly.
(just trying to get your comments up to 50 DsD.. then the circle is complete.. but must sleep now..)
I mean now...
DsD - I just noticed you said "...unleash yet more guitar riffs on an unsuspecting PaulMac...".
Somehow, I think "unsuspecting" is the last thing he'll be. "Ooh - DarceysDad eh ? What's he doing on my blog, fancy that !".
Yeah, as soon as I'd typed it I thought that, DaddyPig, but I was far too tired to figure out what word should be there instead.
@ steenbeck - if you remind me on Weds or Thurs this week, I'll 'Box the Fanfarlo LP again.
Oh, and thanks to Blimpy for explaining about the missing apostrophe; I'll stop trying to peer down the gap twixt screen and surround at the bottom of my monitor for where it might have fallen to!
;o)
@ Bethnoir - where does JAP review for?
@ Daddypig - saw your write up on the social cd's but never had time to respond. I've had a bit of a mad few weeks so not been around much, although I'm easing back into the swing of things at the moment. I still have two cd's to listen to and when I have will report back on the remainder. (I did put some stuff on the last post about the cd's)
@ exodus - Jason is currently ranked Amazon.co.uk's 8th Top Reviewer.

Thanks Exodus - I just wanted to point out that my appreciation was available to read. It wasn't meant to make you feel under pressure to do anything !
But have you read it yet?
I did love your comment along the lines of 'I don't know if I like Lydia Lunch but I'm sure no-one else on the bus was listening to anything like it'
