If anyone's interested there's a program on this subject at www.kqed.org at 10 pm Pacific time, set your recorder! Radio Specials Radio Lab: Pop Music -- Why do some songs mercilessly stick in our heads and repeat themselves over and over? What makes these hooks so hooky? And what happens when a song -- or just a piece of one -- really and truly won't disappear from your head for years? The program looks into nightmarish stories of musical hallucinations, ear-worms that won't quit and the triumphant return of the Elvis of Afghanistan.
And incidentally, there's a cracker of an earworm by the Clint Boon Experience (or CBX) called Earworm. Guest vocals by Fran Healy. I only wish I was competent enough to post it somehow!
@TracyK - I noticed Earworm when I googled CBE, and can't find it anywhere - you must crack podbean!
Meanwhile, I need help - I've had an earworm for a week - just a jangly guitar tune that I can't even recall, with the earworm being a male voice going 'oh baybee' every little while, more spoken than sung. I know I'm not giving folks much to go on, but any suggestions as to what it might be would be really welcome...

Good stuff - though Tally Ho isn't relinquishing its grip on my synapses just yet. Will have to put Anthology on order soon.
Dammit, now I've got 'Good Ship Venus' as an earworm.
I've been singing Jamie Lidell's Multiply all day. Not unconnected to going to see him on Monday at a very small venue, perhaps.
