EJD's tenuous building songs

Here's a few songs I recommended on the mothership. Above is some buildings in Sao Paulo, which is full of them. Ugly ones, audacious ones, modern ones, decrepit ones. These are in the centre, or downtown, where I think you find the most interesting architecture in the city. The one on the left is covered in a kind graffiti, which is particular to SP. I wonder how it came about, and why it's different to the ones we have in Europe or the US.

First there's the Blues Magoos garage version of Heartbreak Hotel.

Then there's the great The Fin Du Monde, which is actually a bit tenuous for this week (it would have been perfect for songs about parties), but basically where at an amazing party in a club, probably the best ever in the history of the world, somebody comes on the mic and tries to warn people that the end is nigh. The end of the world that is, nuclear apocalypse to be exact. The thing is, the party is so amazing that people are too busy dancing .

The third is a recent Caribbean favourite from the same compilation as the previous song.

Also, Kookie's Mad Pad seems mad indeed, it's got alpaca lampshades and a wall-to-wall TV. A pad can be a house right, hence a building?

Lastly M's Le Commun Des Motels is a favourite instrumental of mine.

I have to listen to them again tomorrow without distractions, but I like everything I've heard so far. My boys have taken to programming their cartoon dvds dubbed in different languages, so they're currently watching a show about aliens in French with Spanish subtitles. It's actually a vast improvement on the original. Listening to Le Commum Des Motels at the moment, so far I especially like that and dry weather house, but I haven't heard one I didn't like. Donds on the mothership to follow...

3 and 4 made me dance around the living room making silly flappy movements with my hands. Thank god there's no 'SPILLCAM. Yet.

Great soundtrack for making my apple curd tart with walnut meringue. Danced around the kitchen to distract young but already rather large labrador who's intent on jumping up and eating the pastry. She loves dancing. I especially liked The fin du monde. Off to search for more Soundforce on Deezer.....

All good tracks, EJD. Bit near the bone with the dry weather house though- after the recent storm, the waterproofing on my current building site started to leak...but the lyrics are hilarious..

Thanks everyone. I find The Fin Du Monde (if you understand French), Kookie's Mad Pad and Dry Weather House particularly funny.
Steenbeck, are the aliens plants by any chance? I remember this cartoon, forgot the name, but it was probably sponsored by the Association for the Promotion Deforesters. Of course as a child I didn't realise. It was really good though, and I didn't grow up to be a rampant lumberjack.

EJD, that Blues Magoos track is a revelation - almost up there with Billy Swan's cover of "Don't Be Cruel". And I've Deezer-favourited the M album for future listening pleasure.

Cheers
