'My Way' Ain't My Way

Have I stuck my size 9s in it once too often?

I can't stand Frank Sinatra's music. I think he was brilliant at what he did, but was essentially a one-trick pony, and it's a trick I don't care for.

I've said so over on Jon Wilde's thread and got a kicking for my troubles. So, seriously, if anyone takes the time to read that blog, I'd like to know whether I really am missing something, or whether the CiF music snobs have me wound up like a top for nothing.

Stefan08 has got me reaching for the section in the Yellow Pages marked 'Contract Killers', and I want to know how my defence is going to pan out in court ...

All comments from you lot gratefully received!

I haven't read the blog yet, but I agree with you about the one-trick pony thing, even though it's a trick I don't mind and enjoy from time to time, yet not to the point of adoration.

I've kinda stopped paying attention to the GU blogs, they seem to have just descended into bitchiness and pointless point scoring of late.

I would never say I can't stand him, but can see why someone wouldn't like him. If you see footage of him live he really is quite something, and you have to love a man who can so effortlessly sing everything basically out of time.

I have a double CD of Sinatra '50s stuff. I don't listen to it very often, say about once every other blue moon.

He is OK but my tastes are a bit more, ahem, raucous.

It is all a bit too polite for me overall. I can admire what he does but it doesn't make me want to get up and jump around.

Oh I just read Stefan08's last comment... See in this case you shouldn't even have kept reading once you left so proudly. Now the urge to respond to such petty condescending pratness must be eating you alive. Or maybe I'm too competitive and learn to be cool.

No, EJD, you've nailed the feeling pretty well. I'm not going back in, but someone needs to put that berk back in his cell, where he can worship his false God away from us balanced human beings.

The reason I posted this is that I'm disappointed no-one else over there has even tried to puncture S08's gas-filled balloon; not even Michael Hann. It made me wonder if it was me with the problem after all.

Ach, sod it; I'm off to bed.

I don't have it in me right now, and I don't care enough either way about Sinatra, but I'll be watching.

I may have been rather cutting in your defence Rich. If ther's flak to come for me, I won't be arsed to reply, I suggest you don't bother either. Than Stefan08 is clearly cuddles up to his lifesize Frank blowup doll right now.

I'm quite fond of Sinatra in small doses - he has got an astonishingly good voice and some of his 50's stuff is outstandingly good. In The Wee Small Hours and Songs For Swinging Lovers both thoroughly deserve their place on my iPod.

I don't know the blog you'll all talking about and, quite frankly (sorry!) I don't really want to go anywhere near it. I've got everything I need here on the loveship 'Spill.

I don't like Sinatra: never have, never will. I read a few comments on that blog and I would say - DD, just don't bother yourself.

I don't need to, tfd, Tracy's stuck her floral DocMartens at rapid speed straight into S-08's tender spot!

TK I owe you a pint ...

Floral docs! Bloody hell, did I talk about them at the Northern Social, or was it just a very astute guess?

@ DarceysDad - sorry to post off topic but I was at a school football tournament today and I overheard one parent saying to another "Oh, you're Darcey's dad!" I did wonder for a moment...

@ Tracy - I'm sure you've mentioned the DMs before, something to do with an ensemble which included a Laura Ashley dress and a Wildhearts leather jacket.

@ ToffeeBoy - nah, sorry. whilst I'm very proud that Darcey recognises the Liver Bird crest (you'll be dismayed to hear) - "Is Liverpool winning, Daddy?" - she is only two, so the school footy is a bit of a way off yet.

D/D: I followed and enjoyed the postings re. FS over on the other side and I appreciated your comments, I finally decided to chip in but I think I left it a bit late, but my comment is over there, it generally supports your POV.

You call that merely "chipping in", gf?!

I thank and salute you too.

In fact, everyone has made (what was a quite crappy) weekend finish with a smile on my face.

I have gleaned some excellent suggestions to search out to see if I'm wrong about Frank Sinatra, so in theory, watch this space ...

... but if my attempted introduction to opera is anything to go by, don't hold your collective breaths!

Cheers all.
