surprised by my own randomness

I was listening to my iPod on random today, and this song came on. It's from Pete Rock's Soul Survivor. I've had the album for years, but I guess I've never listened to it very carefully. I really like this track, and have now made up for lost time by listening to it about 5X since I've been home. Does that happen to anybody else?

ipods are random, but not in the way we think of random. the ohter day, all my ipod wanted to play me was Art Brut.

i'll also find tracks that i've downloaded ages and ages ago, that have suddenly sprung into life again. Mumford & Sons "Little lion Man" is one I've had for ages, but have listened to 20x in the last two weeks. Their album was my choice to listen to at work, it helped me with the stress of making a huge and complex video in an extremely shrt space of time.

I have a tendency to really like something that I've overheard.. think I should get hold of it.. then find I have it already....

if only they would invent something, preferable small.. where I could have easy access to all my tunes.. it would be so much easier.

(I could work out a filing system.. but it would take all the fun out of flicking through records... going "it's here somewhere.. bloody is I know it..")

@shane - what you need is a "Record Butler (TM)". I used to have one, but I sold him on (to Puff Daddy).

"Chives?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Chives, find me that song..."

"Song, sir?

"Yes Chives, you know the one... with the guitars and the bit that goes doof doof doof in the middle"

"Yes sir, coming right up"

Ha! I'm glad that happens to you Shane, because many a time I've heard a song and thought-oh I like that. Why is it so familiar? And it turns out to be from one of your compilation CDs

my record butler is only 4 and a half... not yet properly trained (able to read!).. except he knows only the edges.. don't put finger prints over the record or cd.

now we have hand prints from paint over walls and floors and school stuff.. anything.. but the records.. (he really will know how to get my goat when he's a teenager 'aving a paddy!)

I'm glad they seep in somehow ...

I really should prune my music to a manageable level!!

(I might have to post some Butcher Boy for you soon.. to see if you like.. or do you know them?)

The Shoephone has an app called Shazam, if you hear something you like, but don't know what it is, it will listen & tell you. How cool is that? & it's free.

DarceysUncle absolutely swears by Shazam, Shoey. Says it's the coolest piece of software in all human history. He has a bar-owning, ex-DJ friend who has made it his goal in life to catch Shazam out ... Shazam usually wins, even with old obscure reggae & dub tunes

Oh, & Blimpy, there is a setting in i-Tunes to pick how random you want you're pod to be.
