I found this great clip I would like to share. Quite apart from it being a clip from the golden days of US cable - TV Party, which is a show I only recently heard about (if anyone stateside has any more information about this show, please pass it on) it also features Klaus Nomi.
Klaus is one more I have to add to the long list of artists my elder brother introduced me to. I remember him buying and bringing home the first album on release and, as was his want, he would haul me over to the stereo and say excitedly, 'Listen to this yoof!'. I remember sitting there and staring at the sleeve and getting lost in the sounds. I was no fan of opera at the time, but I 'got' that Nomi had something special. His version of 'Lightening Strikes' still hits quite hard all these years on, both as an unusual cover choice and as a bravura performance of sorts, although the technology used to record it sounds a little dated from moment to moment. Still, I find that same need to stare when he performs still overtakes me 28 years on.

He's a legend. The Nomi Song, a documentary about him, is definitely worth a watch. This performance of The Cold Song, towards the end of his life, always has me spellbound.

Didn't somebody post some footage of TV Party in the early days of the 'Spill? Blimpy, maybe?
Twas me Steen, Pitchfork.tv had a TV Party special back in the early days of the Spill.
Now that I think of it, it might have been to feature a DVD of TV Party, or was it an exhibit? It was a One Week Only thing, and there's no trace of it on the site.

I checked out the older post - thanks guys! I did come across one clip from TV Party by myself a couple of years back, but had never heard of the show before that. Rather like the Musik Laden, which is another show I was blisfully unaware of until You Tube enlightened me. This latter one all the more amazing, since it was populated by all the Top of the Pops DJ's as presenters. The handful of German friends I have of this sort of age never heard of Music Laden however, which if the show was anything like Top of the Pops in the UK, seems hard to believe.
