Eurovision Song Contest

...the last couple of years this contest has turned into a strange kind of freak show without any decent songs to speak of, but in its history there have been some fine songs, a couple of examples:

France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son
...written by Serge Gainsbourg....

Amina - Le dernier qui a parlé

Telex - Eurovision
...from Belgium, nice electro-pop....

...and now to the abysmal stuff, this song didn't make it through the Dutch qualifying rounds a couple of years ago, the winner wasn't a lot better though...

Double Date - E-Mail to Berlin

Interesting. Very interesting.....

One of the most interesting things about the second video (apart from Amina herself - mmm, might just have to watch that video again) is the bloke who's introducing it. Didn't recognize the face but listening to the voice, surely it's, but it can't be, it is 'Mr PopMaster' himself Rob Brydo......er, I mean Ken Bruce.

Two of my favourite Eurovision winners are Francophone Songs, tho' I can't remember their original French titles. They are:-

'Come What May' - Vicki Andross (sp?) for France in 1972 and
'Beautiful Dream' - Anne Marie David for Luxembourg in 1973.

Ofcourse the year after that some group of chancers from Sweden won it with a ridiculous song about an epic European battle. It's never been the same since.

I love Eurovision. I missed it last year because someone by the name of Dorian Lynskey (remember him?) thought it was a good idea to hold the first RR Social on the same night. Bah!

Oooops!

After a quick bit of research, Vicki Andross actually song for Luxembourg aswell, as part of the famous Double-Winning Luxembourg team (although I think she was Greek herself). And the original French title was 'Apres Toi'

Right, now that that's cleared up, back to the great Eurovision site I've found on YouTube......

the mcflah household have a spesh eurovision night, where you pick a team to back, and have to make food that's the speciality of that country. then you get really pissed on a variety of tradiutional national bevvies and shout at the TV.
