Have you had your plus sign today? FP's exceedingly optimistic playlist

I wasn't going to do one today but I'm away in the coming week and was away a lot last week so I thought I'd try and respect the usual rhythm. And anyway there were some great songs suggested over on the Mother Ship so I also wanted to pay tribute to that. I never NEVER thought I could like anyone else's version of "Mr Blue Sky" and was astounded to discover how much I like the Delgado's version. Extraordinary. This playlist throws up one question for me - I'm still in a 'film' mood having been steeped in that world for two weeks. There's one song in this playlist which I cannot hear without seeing Jack Black whirling round John Cusack's record shop like a spinning top on speed. You know which song I mean.
The question is therefore - which song that you already knew has subsequently come to be linked with a film in your mind, so much so that they have become inseperable....?

confused now to where to post things..
glad you liked my playlist Fp.

agree with you that Nilpf has to watch 'belly of an architect' and with steenb that clip joint is the little room you can be heard (you all sound too informed ..scares me!)

I'm thinking, FP, I know there are a MILLION, but my brain isn't working tonight. Maybe Albinoni (sp?) at the end of Gallipoli(sp?) heartbreaking. There are more...I'll come up with them in the middle of the night, I'm sure.

Now my head is a little straighter (I was allowed to lay in til 9.30 before being jumped on)

To answer the question:
1 Mad World gets Donnie Darko in my head.
although I've watched this so much it almost takes over now..

2 Juliette Lewis doing 'Born Bad' Natural Born Killers..an inspired soundtrack, a lot of the songs on it bring to mind the movie.

Good shout on Albinoni and Donnie Darko as well. Have just discovered a new circle of hell. CDG airport's new terminal 2E. "Abandon hope all ye who enter here". Huge glass structure - nightmare to air condition - so what do they do to lessen the effet? Yup, tasteful light wood panelling all over the inside. And you have your sauna effect! All we need now is middle aged Nordics leaping about in the nude and the horror will be complete. I'm swelting and shall be obliged to buy another bottle of mineral water at 4 euros a pop. Now I fekkin' know what 'Walking on fekkin' sunshine means'. And the lifts are only big enough for 1.5 people. And one is out of order. Strewth. Rant over. Tell TracyK I'm heading oop North so she can mentally prepare herself. :O)

Fight The Power--Do the RIght THing. There are many others from Spike Lee, but that's the first one that popped in my head--powerful song/powerful fillm. Also All Blues from Mo Better Blues.

Also a good call - can see the opening sequence now - the girl with the boxing gloves. I very much liked Lee's earlier films but got a bit lost off later on...

Donnie Darko means Echo and The Bunnymen for me. It's a great, great film, it won the two year poll for my media studies after-school club as the best film I've shown them. FP, if you do come up north, my hen do ended at the Tiger Lounge in Manchester (NOT Tiger Tiger! ~shudder~): I've never heard The Creatures (Right Now), followed by the Fun Boy three (Tain't What You Do), followed by The Clapping Song, Al Wilson's The Snake, Sinatra's Wish On A Star (though of you Rich and still reckon it's rubbish!)... it was very eclectic.
Off to crawl into bed and sweat out some of those cocktails...

Sounds like an awesome do!! That's a very original music line up to say the least with some good Smash Hits staple fare - Fun Boy Three and the Belle Stars seemed to have been spot welded to the front page at one point. I have a confession - I have Donnie Darko at home in DVD and have never actually got round to seeing it. So much good feedback from you all that I promise I'll get round to it when I'm back over t'other side. I hope the hangover is not too grim. Guys! Guys! Got any good hangover cures for our TracyK?

Sorting my hangover with Grolsch followed by Vodka/apple juice it's working a treat!
The Belle Stars.. now that brings back a warm glow of youth clubs.
Should have watched 'this is england' on film 4 tonight and re-lived my teenage years in one go.
Now where's that 99 red balloons 7 inch?

Full octane Coke and orange juice. Diet Coke won't work, you need the sugar hit.

It looks terrible but tastes surprisingly OK.

Thanks for posting the scene, FP. I guess I haven't seen the movie in a while because I couldn't remember which song it was. Love the Belle and Sebastian bashing. I thought of a few more...Madonna--is it actually called Get Into the Groove? from Desperately seeking Susan, I can't Give you Anything but Love from Bringing up Baby, Screaming Jay Hawkins from Stranger than Paradise. I could go on and on and on, film and music and their combined effect being some of my favorite things.

There was an RR about songs revealed in films. I missed that one.

Shoot, I can't get the link to work. It's probably just as well I wasn't around for that one, when I like a topic it tends to take over the entire weekend.

Me too - a good soundtrack can really lift a film. To go back to my earlier posts - I can't wait for the Wenders 'Palermo shooting' soundtrack to be released - one of the best I've heard in a looooong time!

Impossible now to listen to various Simon & Garfunkel numbers without thinking of 'Intolerable Cruelty' - 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' now instantly summons up the bagpipes.

Yess!!!!!! And "The Boxer" - poor cuckholded hubby driving home to his wife and..... the pool man!!!! Sorry but that is one of my favourite Coen brothers films ever. True die hards just seem to hate it but it's such a tight script and Clooney is perfect. "Tensing.... Norgay...."..." Are you .. wheezy Joe....?"

And especially the bit in 'The Boxer' where he comes in a beat too early... I'm a big Coen Brothers fan, and yet I love that film to bits. Let the National Organisation of Matrimonial Attornies Nationwide put asunder...
