My current favourite

OK, in honour of me getting my computer back working again with my email and everything, here's my current favourite song, which has very little to do with science (unless you count the bloke with the $100 bills trying to buy up the mineral rights - but I would call that 'capitalism'). It's from the Transatlantic Sessions TV series, and the story is that me and my dad watched the last series of TS and both enjoyed it, so when I was adding to his Amazon borrowing-DVDs list I suggested he book Transatlantic Sessions 3, since he'd probably enjoy that too (usually he has all jazz concerts). Well, by the time it came of course he'd forgotten he'd wanted it and thought Amazon had made a mistake...anyway we DID both watch it and we DID both enjoy it, and I totally fell in love with this song.

It's 'You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive' by Darrell Scott, with Karen Matheson on harmony vocals and Jerry Douglas on dobro. If you look it up on youtube, check out the comments underneath...

Was the computer damage caused by the lightning? If so what did it do? If it took a direct hit I'm surprised it's repairable.
I was just looking online at Jazz DVD's and I'm sure you know there's lots out there. Over here, Public TV shows a lot and over the years I've recorded everything I've seen on VHS so consequently I now have a large collection, much jazz but it includes everything musical; I'm slowly converting it to DVD, not sure why.
I spent the last two days transferring a lot of Ellington and Bechet vinyl to my itunes files.

I was exaggerating somewhat - it was a big thunderstorm and it frazzled lots of people's electrics. Including some of the local farmers' milking parlours apparently, which can't have been very nice for the cows. My computer needed some parts replaced but it's OK now.

On jazz DVDs: we have to stick to what's on Amazon's list, because that's where he has his subscription.
