Dig those open threads, man

Meanwhile, back at the mothership Sulu and Spock were scratching their heads over that latest error message:
  • Sorry, commenting is not available at this time.
I canne give ye any more powa, cap'an, said Scotty (who I believe is now dead, which makes it all a bit spooky.

But it really doesn't matter, for yea verily I say unto you, will they silence us that easily? (Do you use question marks on rhetorial questions?)

Clip Joint, too. Maybe the Guardian site is undergoing maintenance?

Or collapsed in the wilting economy.
I slept in this morning and didn't go out for a paper, s it could be my fault. Maybe they take PayPal donations.

Maybe we'll get an upgrade from the "upgrade"?

This Must Be The Place was nommed this week, here are some covers of that song:

I thought the current youth argot is that everything ends on a question? Even definite statements?

gremlinfc said...

Are you serious?

Abahachi said...

You think I'm kidding?

ejaydee said...

Was Gremlin talking about me?
There should be an upgrade? The current site's not satisfactory?

RR's back

gremlinfc said...

I think it is all unsatisfactory...yes?
I was just making questions...yes?

Graemli, I noticed you'd been asking about dropbox over on t'Spill while this site was down. Back in July there was a dropbox meeting, where it was decided that mp3 is the format etc. etc. Tinny organised it all and can probably let you know exactly what was decided. I still have a copy of the Dropbox Rules and will mail it to you later if Tinny can't (he can let you know my email, though, if you don't want to post yours here)

I've just posted this on the Mothership, but you seem to be over here still!

Actually I'll take advantage fo teh open thread to thank Shane, Shoey and Nilpf for their late comments on Dois.

I see what you guys mean when Shane says that once the tunes become familiar, you want to move on to understanding of the lyrics. That's how I learned my first Brazilian words, after numerous listens of Jorge Ben songs, I had to ask what this and that meant. I'm always available for a translation should anybody feel more curious.
Surprised Shoegazi didn't hear the Smiths connection, but fully acknowledge that the Cure comparison was due to ignorance. After all, my brother gets the Sex Pistols and Pink Floyd confused. I checked out The Church and can hear the connection as well.
Eduardo e Monica is basically a boy-meets-girl story, she's the high-brow one, he's low brow, but it all ends well. The opening and closing line is "Who will say there's sense in matters of the heart? And who will say that there's no sense?"

The linguistic term is 'high teminal rise'? Which sounds like a Pere Ubu album? My daughter of step (15) has now nearly grown out of it, so maybe there's hope for the future? sorry, future.

ToffeeBoy said...

I thought it was called a rising inflection? No?

I also always understood that it had been introduced to the UK via the Aussie daytime soap, Neighbours? That's certainly the first time I was aware of it?

Ejay, if you email me or post your two, or put them in a draft, I could come up with 3 more.

I'm kinda into the Alley Oop lately, 'Spill/RR-wise

I'm glad someone else got that message too, I thought it was Big Brother at work, clamping down on my surfing pleasure. I didn't even want to comment, I just wanted to read what you lot had been chattering about.

FInally got a chance to listen to the THis Must Be the Place Covers. I like them all - they all sound pretty similar to me. And similar to the original, which I love.
