I left my play list.. so shoey and steens get a listen and you go and steal 'the germen top five'.. man I love that track (the Champ)I'll make sure i take that out of my list now!Did you get it from the terribly named compilations 'The In-Kraut'?
No, although I had been looking at that compilation, any good? Mine is from Funk Drops, Vol. 2 in this case. It's a nice take on Tramp, which might have been nommed for failure. Is Tramp the most reorked song that's neither reggae or jazz?
most reorced? Dunno, can't stand Tolkien myself.
That's ho-bit harsh, it was of course supposed to be "reworked"
yeah the compilations are really top draw.. as ever with this sort of thing you'll get some dudsthis was on 'The In-Kraut Vol. 3 (Hip Shaking Grooves Made In Germany 1967-1974)' (I get the library to order them, to check them out - this was a corker and a groovy cover to go with it)(now there was a GermAn towel conversation going on wasn't there?)
I'm really starting to dig K'Naan. (Do you kids still say dig?)As part of a festival in Vancouver once I saw a UBC (University of B.C.) classical music student from Japan performing his compostitions that merged some traditional Chinese music forms with western ones, and it was quite interesting. Great listening.Neat stuff happens when people from different backgrounds hold up mirrors for us.
I'm really starting to love K'Naan too, you and others might be interested in this set of short mixtapes where K'Naan shows love to some of his idols:Part 1Part 2Part 3
Love the first three on the podium, I need to check out The Bad Plus, and Nas is satisfyingly blunt.13 de Maio a nice mix of West African guitar and Brazilian flair, will also need to look into Caetano Veloso.
Thanks for listening, you should check out the song sampled in the non-remix version of Success, A Funky THing by Larry Ellis & The Black Hammer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zfe2qTYfleo
