Having seized this opportunity to introduce Mr November 2010 - yes, Jasper is now going to be an actual pin-up in a Pet Calendar produced by the local petfood manufacturers - I want to announce something more serious and important: the opening of nominations for this year's Overs - the Annual 'Spill Awards. Please email abahachi 'at' hotmail.co.uk with nominations for each category (up to three allowed per award), and feel free to append a sentence or two of justification if you wish. I shall endeavour to pull together all the suggestions in a manner which won't really satisfy anyone and certainly won't be nearly as good as Snadfrod's presentation last year, by some time in early January...
1. Album of the Year
2. Older albums that you've discovered or rediscovered this year.
3. Film of the Year
4. Book of the Year
5. Hero of the Year
6. Event of the Year
7. Villain of the Year
8. The Overcooked Award: artist must try harder, whatever the critics think...
Any suggestions for special awards, along the lines of Blimpy's nepotism award or Gremlin's nomination of Roy Keane as Hunk of the Year, gratefully received...

@ Abahachi - do you want us to post nominations here - or is there an email address to send them to with a results evening (black tie, of course) later in the year?
I think you need to make your coffee stronger, TB. There's an email given to the right of Jasper's paw!

And I obviously need to add milk to mine, I'm doing everything twice...
abahachi@hotmail.co.uk - not quite written like that in the post, I'll admit, in the hope of keeping spam levels down.
May1366 clearly read it okay, as I've already received his nominations, but then he does clearly have an Enormous Brain.
Who are you calling enormous?
... and mine is clearly quite small ... [sigh]

Can we have a category for "best fake commenter", please?
Sent!
cheers for doing this - (anything to put off work ont he book?
Thanks Aba, for taking on the role of 'Spill Steve Martin. As we may be sick of 09 & naughties lists by Jan, suggest some more inward looking categories, such as best 'Spill post, best 'Spill thread (we know what the worst one was), Best 'Spill series. Any awards ceremony should be as self-serving as possible.
I did actually float the idea of having categories like 'best podcast' a month or so back, but the reaction wasn't terribly favourable - largely on the grounds that people who weren't selected would feel rejected and miserable. I was planning to do a few awards like that off my own bat, and if anyone wants to send me further suggestions feel free, but unless I hear a great chorus of disagreement I don't think we should start voting on one another.
I'm inclined to steer clear of award categories for each other, I have enough trouble pretending I'm not competitive over on RR, without doing it here too. But having said that, it could be fun if you, Aba, as MC, maybe shared your personal highlights from the year on the 'Spill; the more random and idiosyncratic the better, just to keep the 'winners' and 'losers' thing at bay.
That's just an idea, it might be a bad idea, or a good idea that would take too much time.
Probably wise - just a thought.
It might look like an Enormous Brain but don't be fooled - it's just a build up of household dust, fluff, mucus etc.
E-mail sent. Special award to Mr November 2010 - a splendid example of cat-hood.
Oh, how about an award for best music related moment of the year, such as "X song was playing when my child was born" or "X song came up on my ipod just as I saw her/him for the first time"?
I'll be sending mine in anyway.
