Jim Carroll is dead.
I don't really know much about him, or his life, other than what I read in The Basketball Diaries when I was 18. Lower East Side Rimbaud and all that.
I really liked the book then, and even the film.
I didn't look any further than that, but if anyone has any recommendations
I think that one of his songs is in the RR index. (**edit** it is, and it's this one:)

His album 'Catholic Boy' (including the amazing 'People who died') is a fine American punk album, just recently bought the cd to replace the 1980's vinyl....
Darlin, if you're gonna write a blog post about someone and feature their music, do the rest of us a favor and host the files yourself. Don't hotlink to mine and act like they're yours. At least show me the respect I'm due by sending your readers over to the piece of writing I spent some time working on, the writing that accompanies the files that I host and I pay hosting fees for. That is common courtesy here in blogland, xoxo
Dear Tart,
I think you're getting a bit confused about what is "yours", "mine" and what belongs to the copyright holder.
If you're going to be principled about ownership, you shouldn't post up copyrighted works that don't belong to you.
i host lots and lots of files, and don't care if folks hotlink to them. share the love, yeah?
I'd be most happy to share the "love" if you'd share a link to my writing that is posted with the files which are on my host. :) My efforts are not just to throw up some free music for the sake of attracting traffic, but to create and share the experience evoked from that music. Let's share the experience, and the credit, eh?
Woah
TartyTart doesn't know us very well, does (s)he?
Well, first impressions make a mark: with that attitude ... don't think I'll bother taking the virtual trip.
Off to play my (free download from the band) DBT version of People Who Died.
Dear Tart - Credit? Okay then; you invented Jim Carroll. Well done you.
Now, now can't we all get along.
Not sure that the whole host/parasite argument is very helpful. Am certain that Jim won't mind too much who shared his songs & am sure he acquired a few things from others without asking to support his habits.
Blimps you did borrow the Tart's bandwidth without asking. Not exactly crime of the century, but think you should de-escalate the fire.
Tart's blog is very impressive - lot's of well written & informative stuff. Well worth checking out.
Tart - if you're still around, check out the reader's recommend blog (link above). This week's topic should go up around 6:20 ish your time - think you may enjoy.
Thanks for your comments, readers. I came back to get over-intellectually cranky about ownership and what Jim would have maybe thought about all this nonsense to find Shoegazer being all sensible, pfft! :)
You're very welcome to come over and listen to Jim, and to link up to him from here with a chance for folks to know where it's coming from, that's my only point. Apologies if I offended you Blimpy,I try to play fair, I'm sure you do to.
have a lovely evening, I'll check back to see that post, thanks for the heads up and for your kind compliment, Shoegazer, xoxo
Fair dos. In that case, a pax handshake offered from me too, Tart.
I removed the link to Tart's hosting as soon as I read the first comment.
