Gremlin in Bärlin

Travel is great - think we all agree on that and though Berlin is a place I have been before it is a constantly changing and developing place , buildings , culture , politics , events : the outdoor "Topography of Terror" around where the Chancellry buildings used to be between Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse (today Niederkirchnerstrasse), Wilhelmstrasse and Anhalter Strasse , is now awaiting finishing on a permanent indoor home. U2 are playing in front of the Brandenburger Tor FREE on Nov 5th to commemorate 20th anniversary of Mauerfall. Security was massive while we were there as Angela Merkel had just formed a new government and was being sworn in. Policemen with machine-guns on the streets - now that IS scary. And they don't mess about either.
Here is a wonderful piece of urban art which is for all to see and you can see how big it is from the pic. Spill points for the following:
1. Who made it?
2. What is it called?
3. Where exactly is it?
4. Which are the nearest U-Bahn
5. Is it in former East or west Berlin?
Massive thanks to all the RR-ers who went to Leeds and gave me a CD - I shall be listening to them now I am back and will put fave tracks on here - X

I can't remember what it's called or who made it but it was in Yorkshire Sculpture Park two years ago as part of a special exhibition. There were lots of Andy Galsworthy pieces but that isn't one of his, I'm sure. Is it Anthony Gormley?

I can see how you may regard it as a Gormley creation but it mos def has not been anywhere Yorkshire Sculpture Park : it is 30 metres high and weighs 45 tons...

grem, old chap, they do move these things around you know. However, on close comparison of the feet, I see that yours have only a few holes in, whereas the YSP version was riddled with them.
The artist has obviously tried this more than once....

You are absolutely correct dear Chris in your assertion that these things move about - indeed you are so correct that you are spot on - you DID see this at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park !!! It's true!
(I just googled the sculptor and it came up with the info...)-
it was a much smaller version but exactly the same. Can you remember any names?

I've put a pic of the YSP in the Photos folder in the 'Box.

Nah, I'm useless with names...

I'm not brilliant at putting all the required words in a sentence, either: ...of the YSP installation....

I know the Hammering Men and the Acne Men are close relatives. Borofsky really annoys me, you could have made 77 Audi A8s from those former beer cans if you'd had more imagination.

It was called Molecule Man, I think. it used to be quite near the entrance to YSP - it was one of young Munday's favourites but we haven't been recently so I don't know if it's still there.

My brother taught at Bretton College for 25 years, so I used to go to YSP a lot, even before I lived in the area. It's a great day out for kids and a bit of culture thrown in.

Measle Men - Spree River, Treptower Park ...
Nicht sooo weit von Tempelhof entfernt.

Jeremy Clogson gets the Spillpoint for naming Jonathan Borofsky - sehr gut!
Ali gets one for "Molecule Men"-
Ossi (as opposed to "Wessi" ?)gets one for the thing being actually in the Spree river , as s/he says not so far from Tempelhof , representing where the 3 areas (Bezirke) Kreuzberg, Treptow und Friedrichshain meet(great German word "Dreierbezirkseck"...translate that 1!).
best view is from the Oberbaumbruecke - nearest U-Bahn anyone?

I was up at YSP the week before last - as was Molecule Man. There is also a Molecule Man at Council Bluffs, Iowa.

@silentprinter - he's been busy hasn't he?
There's me thinking this was the only Molecule Men in town and to find all along Borofsky's been leading me on...it is quite something to see it in the Spree though. Why Iowa I wonder - is that where he's from?
