Needing, sorry, nicking the sofa: Mnemonic, tarxien
Kneeling: DaddyPig, AliMunday, the extremely tall tincanman
The more formal team picture from Saturday night's shindig. I can't speak for anyone else, but I had a whale of a time, so thank you all. Apologies to our more sensitive readers about gremlin's hand; I did tell him not to pick his spots, but the camera's timer went off, so ... tough!
Anyway, the other reason for posting this - there was the customary exchange of compilation CD-Rs, and the usual promises to listen and feedback. Given that I was in a nostalgic heavy rock mood when I compiled mine, I'm not actually going to hold anyone to that promise! ☺ All I ask is that everyone attending, or with access to the 'Box (hint, hint!) listens to Track No.19 on mine, and forgives the fact that it was a live recording from a pub gig, and the source cassette is twenty-three years old.
So, any feedback welcome . . .

First of all, apologies to DaddyPig and AliM for the fact that the 'Edit HTML' function is playing silly buggers with the font size for your names on the photo caption. On my 'Spill page, your names look smaller than the others, but on the Blogger compose page, they're enormous. The html code has them listed exactly the same as the others. I bloody hate misbehaving technology!
Anyhoo, so far, I've only managed to get through Mnemonic and tarxien's CDs.
To repeat my comment from the mothership, Mnemonic scores big with Mission Of Burma, Mono and Tom Brosseau; Neu! and (surprisingly) Current 93 get smiley stickers for their work.
And the whole thing has managed to completely avoid ANY duplication with my existing collection, which is a miracle.
But I think Steffen Basho Junghans is taking the piss, and as for that Squarepusher track ... I persevered right through as I was trying to negotiate the roadworks in Huddersfield at the time, but if you ever wanted an example of what NOT to give me, that's it in one 15 minute package!
What? What do you mean it's less than 5 mins long?! It didn't bloody feel like it!!!
tarxien's disc also scores with me: MASSIVELY for Noah And The Whale, which I can't stop playing, and for Florence & The Machine. There are plenty of ticks down the rest of the list, Gomez and Joni were already esconced in the DsD collection. Only The Hidden Cameras, Pool O'Life and The Pretenders aren't candidates for the Walkman.
Thank you very much, both, now I'm off to do some decor jobs with DaddyPig's disc for company.
Back later ...
DsD - Thanks for posting the photo. It's OK about the font,I'm used to being dwarfed by the mighty Tincanman. And Tarxien, sorry about my fluffy hair in front of you.
Haven't got far with the CDs yet - of those heard, favourite tracks are:
Exodus - Water Music / Here Comes the Flood (Peter Gabriel / Robert Fripp)
Daddypig - It Aint Necessarily So
(Peggy Lee)
Gremlin - Purple Haze (Groove Armada)
TracyK - The Holloways - Jukebox Sunshine
Mr Munday says he loves Webcore's Blues (I expect I will too but haven't got that far yet), and Mnemonic's "Wild Geese Alighting on a Sandy Shore" (again, I haven't got that far yet. I think I will like most of DsD's, Tinny's, Gordon's and Tarxien's).
Great to finally see what Gremlin looks like!
I had a cd prepared for the social- Would anyone like me to put it in the box or should I wait for the Madrid social?
Lovely to see you all... wish I'd been there too. Especially impressed with Mnemonic and Tarxien managing to be in both North and South posses. Perhaps we could ask Marconius can produce a leaderboard for social appearances?
Oh, this is mighty fine...I've only listened to DsD's one so far, but Dr Feelgood, Thin Lizzy, Katrina & the Waves, Lone Justice, Somebody's Brother and Iko Iko will be joining the 10,000 songs on my iPod.
Night night all!
Thank you very much, tfd.
@ Maki - Yeah, 'Box it!
Think I've managed to do the box thing with mine. Can someone check & let me know if it's worked? If not can someone provide a step by step idiots guide?
How about a mini EOTWQ?
1) Favourite new discovery
2) favourite re-discovery (as in 'I'd completely forgotten that track & how much I liked it'
3) track you're happiest to have added to your collection.
4) the track you couldn't actually listen all the through & guiltily skipped, vowing never to play it again.
I'll try again with 4
the track you couldn't actually listen TO all the WAY through & guiltily skipped, vowing never to play it again.
Yes, your tracks are on their way into the 'Box, exodus. Only half a dozen as I type, but it appears to be working.
I'm re-sealing parts of the bathroom to a jazz & blues accompaniment from DaddyPig & sonofwebcore. Don't have webcore's tracklisting to hand so will ID my faves later, but can I just say "WOW!" to DP's selections from Bill Brandon and Candi Staton. Both can make a grown man cry!
@ exodus - your 'Boxing seems to have stalled at ten songs.
Gotta go now, I'm off to pick the girls up from Buxton. I'll take your CD with me for the journey there ... feedback tonight.
Optimistic, on-the-offchance query: anyone likely to be at a loose end in central London on Sunday afternoon? We have an expedition to meet up with MsStepAbahachi, so that her and Mrs Abahachi can spend some quality time together in the afternoon before we meet The New Boyfriend (deep sinking feeling sets in) for early supper in Chinatown before returning to the depths of the West Country, all of which leaves me with time to kill that I will otherwise probably spend in Ray's Jazz dispensing money that I don't actually possess...
I could tear myself away from the allotment for a couple of hours. Anything special in mind?
It could be difficult for me to tear myself away from the neverending move, but keep me posted.
My box reckons all 18 are there. Possibly my innate ludditeness has resulted in a 'liveware problem'.
Let's c if posting on me gadget works..
Bloody hell miracles r possible- bout the zigth time I've tried since getting 2 berlin- sitting in KaDeWe on the Ku'damm having coffee- CDs from social r wicked -willcomment properly when back; love 2 all
People putting albums in the box...you need to number the tracks BEFORE the track name (eg 01 Geechie Wiley...), otherwise Dropbox will helpfully put them in alphabetical order, thus ruining your carefully-crafted running order.
DarceysDad, those tracks are both from a triple CD of southern soul my brother gave me for Xmas. So there's more where they came from !
Gremlin, as I said on RR, your CD came out first in my random selection when I was home alone on Monday. Loved the Gregory Isaacs and Daddy Freddy. The electronica brought back all sorts of mixed but interesting memories -I didn't get it at the time but it turned out to be the future ! A soft spot for St Etienne though, I revisited the original Like A Motorway, I think I prefer its electro-poppiness to the Chemical Brothers, but good to rediscover.
Exodus, I like those 4 questions, but the answers might take a while !
And yes, a lovely evening out, thanks all. x
I've put a collection of Northern Soul goodies in the 'Box. I'm doing this from my holiday base in Edinburgh so apologies if it doesn't work properly.
If frogprincess is reading, it's time to get your gladrags on and your handbag out and slip your dancin' shoes on. It's going to be an all-nighter ...
Just a quick link to aforementioned Southern Soul compilation, because sharing can sometimes lead to shopping. Extra thanks to my brother now I've seen the price.

@mnemonic and ejd: I'm now feeling guilty for mentioning my London trip, as allotments have to be dug and moves have to be completed, and I didn't have anything better to suggest than "Pub? Chat about music?". I'll be fine, but very touched that you considered this even for a moment.
If the weather's nice, I'm going to Kew Gardens to take advantage of the membership my brother gave me for my birthday. It includes several guest passes if you'd like to do that.
Note to self: never attempt to upload music when away from Toffee Mansions. That way lies madness.
All the tracks seem to be in the 'Box now and it only took me about 15 hours to get them there. However, they also seem to be in the wrong format (m4a) - so the chances are some of you can't get them anyway (assuming that anyone wants to in the fist place).
No, I'm not impressed either.
My "Didn't quite make it to the Social" CD is now in the box. I'll have another one ready for the Madrid social if and when...
OK so we're still missing Mnemonic's, Tarxien's, Gremlin's, TracyK's and DaddyPig's. Get to work elves!
If anyone with both my CD and dropbox would please be kind enough to help ? I'd hate any kind of anticipation to build up around it.
@ DaddyPig - If no-one's 'Boxed yours yet, I'll do it in an hour or so. Just got some kids and jobs to put to bed ...
Thank you DarceysDad, that's very kind in a busy schedule. I've got yours, Tarxien's, Exodus's and AliM's on my MP3 player for commuting tomorrow and early next week....
I used to have that Klark Kent on green vinyl, and the Feelgood's Case of the Shakes is my nomination for unsung hero album of all time. Looking forward to it !
