RIP Yma Sumac

Who?
Yma Sumac. Peruvian singer, born Zoila Augusta Emperatriz Chavarri del Castillo, descendant of the last Incan emperor, or at least that's what the legend purports. Another story is that she was Argentinean, of French origin, born Amy Camus (see what they did there). She died in Hollywood on Saturday.

Anyway, the one thing I know about her, is that she has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard and her music is a bit weird, eerie, one might say.

It stopped playing half-way through the list. But good lord, what a range. It's other-worldly. Isaac said "Is that a ghost?" Her voice does sound a bit super natural.

Ejay: I'm old enough to remember when she was top of the pops in UK all the time. I thought about her last week on RR when we were discussing how pop music changes.

My mum was convinced she was Amy Camus really...she also reckoned Alan Yentob was Botney. (TV arts guru, non-UK folk)
