..and I just can't hide it..

No comments necessary, just wanted to share my excitement!

I haven't been to a gig all year (high ticket prices, credit crunch, lack of anything I was absolutely dying to go to), but after a last minute cancelled appointment gave me an unexpected free afternoon today, I managed to get in some record shopping and enough time to surf the internet looking for nothing in particular.

I drifted towards the Load records website and found out that my (and other 'Spillers) beloved Lightning Bolt were finally coming back to Tokyo after the aborted attempt 2 years ago. I sprinted to the nearest convenience store to get tickets, only to be confronted with a "sold out" message. After scrambling around on the internet for a couple of hours looking for another ticket provider and another sprint to a different convenience store, I now hold in my grubby mitts a pair of tickets to Lightning Bolt in Shibuya on November 13th. Yay! The icing on this delectable cake? The mighty Guitar Wolf are supporting (GW and LB released a Japan-only split single at the time of the aborted tour 2 years ago). The cherry on top? The gig falls on my birthday! Woo-hoo!

p.s. the link with the video (apart from the fact that of being very excited) is that I saw Le Tigre play the same venue a few years ago and they opened with this number and I took a slash next to Ad Rock!

KCRW is the station in LA where I used to hang out, I know the spot where she's standing.

@GF - what did you do at KCRW? The station name comes up a lot in my internet travels, but I don't know what kind of station it is

I think it's may'be the best station in the US, best I've heard anyway. They have a very nice mix of music, politics, books, talk, etc. The music is good every morning 9-12, Morning becomes Eclectic, they have a performance studio just off the main DJ studio, where that video was shot, it also has nice music programs every evening and on weekends. We used to do a 4 hour reggae show there every Sunday 1-5pm, most popular show they had. They're online and well worth checking. It's part of Santa Monica City College.

snap ninja sane, I just commented on that on Blimpy's blog.. I don't have that comp, though it has a few DJ Food, Funki Porc, Coldcut, and Herbaliser tracks I have elsewhere. Looks like a good mix.

GF - cheers, will try a couple of the KCRW podcasts to see if I like 'em.

Nilp/Shane - I do indeed like it, a lot! I was always aware of Ninja Tunes but thought them a bit too "nice" and coffee-tabley for my tastes, maybe i'm getting older, maybe it's the dark skies and cold weather outside, maybe they are just great tunes, I don't know, but I like nearly every track on the album, especially the jazzier numbers. About the only band/DJ I hadn't heard of before was 9 Lazy 9, and those tracks are my favourites on it.

I got 9lazy9's Sweet Jones because it uses a Jaco Pastorius sample off the track Portrait of Tracy. A fine album, quiet but satisfying.
I liked the way NT signed a lot of innovative jazz based groups and DJs like Jaga Jazzist and Skalpel, as well as developing their own funk/soul/jazz sample based sound with the DJ Food project.
Ninja Tunes samplers are usually a good bet- I think I only got Coldkrushcuts on a whim, or I may have heard something by Coldcut which put me onto it, but it remains one of my favourite albums. Xen Cuts would probably be my best compilation of all time, though.
