I wanted to add a link to Fela's Confusion. It seemed like to large a file to put into Dropbox, but it's such a remarkable song it deserves a special mention. It's unusual for Fela (to my ears) because of the crazy organ (?) solo to start and then the conversation between the organ solo and the drum solo (not a duet, I don't think, cause they don't play at the same time), but of course, being Fela, it's the horn solos you're listening for, or Sax maybe, does that count as a horn? Oops, ignorance on display. Anyway, give it a listen...

I'm lost in early Tommy Boy Mixes at the moment so will listen later, but didn't you say at the start of this subject.. it wasn't really your thing?

only 19 to contemplate then!

I'm confused on three fronts, steen:
1. As sane said, what is you don't really like about the tracks you've posted?!
2. What exactly is it that's tight?
3. Like what???!

Boy do I regret my hasty first-thought comment. I had been thinking recently that nothing kills a good song for me like a cheesy solo, but I suspected that I actually loved a good solo, and just didn't recognize it as such. And this week's RR has proven that I was correct.

As for tight and like that...if you don't know, I can't tell you.

That's what I thought. S'funny how they could say really raw stuff back then, without actually saying it. Sometimes it's better to circle around a point if you want to achieve the outcome you desire....

One comment, it would help if all Spillers were to post artist names next to tracks, the music's nice, some of it's recognisable, but I'd like to know who I'm listening to. I know I have the Kellya cut but I can't place the group, lovely bit of rumba.

I'll put the names one, GF. Just need to fully wake up first.

Well I described confusion really badly and think I got the instruments all wrong, but I'm late for work so it'll have to stay.

Thanks for the names, I should have recognised the Rumbanella band, not familiar with Sol Hoopii.

S.O.U.L. is awesome.. Go with the flow.. this time Pete took something which was all good..
There was a film of Maceo Parker's band live which I saw sometime in 1995, which was awesome, though I've never been into his albums much. But he certainly blows the soul out of his horn..
